“Of course not, Lady Willow,” he answered, surprisingly calm. “You are a strong and capable woman, and I have no doubt you have the means to decide what is best for you.”

“Just as I thought.” She grinned freely and unabashedly, mesmerizing the giant. “Thank you for your confidence, Kingston.” Turning to face me, she winked again. “See you tomorrow at breakfast?”

“Of course.”

Willow placed a kiss on my cheek and stepped away, returning towards the castle doors. I was left with a raging bull in front of me. When my gaze travelled beyond him to Luna, I found Evie scowling at me too.

Holy hell. Willow was going to get me killed.

“Chief, I didn’t—”

“Fall in line,” Kingston barked, and I rushed towards the others as though my feet were on fire.

Tharion had still not appeared.Lord, give me patience…

“Tharion! Stop playing with me and get your ass down here before I, before I…”Fine, so I didn’t really have anything to threaten him with, which sucked, but still.

Nothing.

My shoulders slumped when Harrison stopped beside me, resting both hands on the front of his belt. “So, I take it you have decided you don’t want to live anymore? This is it for you. This is the day you wish to die?”

His mouth quivered in amusement while I grunted, both our gazes travelling to the chief.

“Shut up.”

“I got to tell you. You have balls, kid. Going after Willow after I am sure you have noticed Kingston’s behavior around her…” He tsked. “It was nice knowing you.”

“You know he has feelings for her?” I whispered, shocked, and he rolled his eyes.

“You’d have to be blind not to see it.”

Right.

“Here, I want to give you something.” Pulling out a silver dagger from his belt that resembled a Dragon claw, he steppedwayinto my personal space and grinned, reaching behind me.

“Um, okay. I am deeply confused and strangely interested,” I mumbled. “What’s going on here?”

Harrison laughed, pulling away again. “I secured the dagger to the back of your belt. I know you are a sword man, but one can never be too careful. Especially on one of these missions.”

Intrigued, I reached behind me and felt the dagger there. Pulling it out, I examined it; it was a replica of his. He had a spear like the other warriors but was obsessed with knives. My index finger fit smoothly into the hole of the handle, making it curve perfectly in my grip, and giving me safe handling of the weapon. It felt like an extension of my hand.

Surprised by how accessible and easy to wield it was, I slid it back into place. “Thank you, Brother. I appreciate it. Also, thank the gods you weren’t flirting with me. For a second there I was scared you were going to kiss me.”

A slow smirk stretched Harrison’s mouth, freckles dancing over his nose. “And don’t you wish you could have me...” Laughter escaped him when I punched his shoulder, and he staggered back a step. “Hey, this rare black beauty it’s a delicacy reserved only for women.” He mocked, smoothing a hand over his head.

The braids that normally hung around his face, down to his jaw, were now tightly woven along his scalp and towards his neck.

“Okay, Mr. Suave, calm yourself down. You are a’ight.” I snorted, lips twitching. Of all the Elevated Warriors, Harrison was definitely the ladies’ man. And with his exotic mix of dark skin, freckles, crystal blue eyes, and reddish hair, I couldn’t blame the women for swooning when they saw him. He was also very charismatic, which worked out well for him.

Winking at me, he walked towards his horse, where the other land riders were getting ready to depart with the provisions needed for our rescue.

It was evident we were about to leave, yet my stubborn Dragon was nowhere to be found. Turning, I began to walk towards Asher, to see if he and Athina could give me a ride to the honeycombs. Maybe if I went to Tharion’s cave, he would give in and come with us.

Kingston sent another scowl towards me, and I knew he was growing impatient. I changed direction towards him, but my steps halted as a Dragon I had never seen landed in front of me, forcing me to move back or be crushed by his foot.

Panting from the scare, I glanced up to find Lachlan riding the red beast. I called the creature a beast because his demeanor was anything but friendly. If anything, he shared the same animosity for me that his rider had.

Great. Just what I needed.
