Aside from the orange and red scales that appeared to have fallen in waves over his body, the Dragon reminded me of a rhinoceros. A large horn protruded from his bulbous nose, but two more extended from the sides of his head, curling backwards like those of a big horned sheep.

In a few words, the dude was ugly... and intimidating as hell.

Puffing, the red beast stared me down, assessing me, and then reared back like he wanted to attack. Lachlan did nothing to stop him.

“Braxton!” Kingston’s, Evie’s, and even some of the guard’s voices mixed with my name, seeing I was about to be stomped on like an ant.

Ribbed black fingers curled around my body the next second, yanking me out of the way. The ground shook, jolting everyone, but it wasn’t from the red Dragon’s stomp.

Tharion had landed.

His jaws opened wide, with a roar that forced the beast back. The message was clear.‘He’s mine. If you touch him, you die...’

Pulse racing, I witnessed the Dragons’ stare down. Tharion’s grip was fierce around me but protective, making sure I was safe in his grasp.

Everyone froze with his arrival. Even the other Dragons stepped back, restlessly watching the exchange, as though they weren’t sure how to act around Fire Fury. Even they seemed scared of him, leaving Asher and the other sky riders struggling to calm them.

The red beast roared back, and fear briefly captured Lachlan’s face, who still rode him. Perhaps it shouldn’t have, but the sight gave me a sick satisfaction. Unfortunately, his fear swiftly turned to rage.

Tharion straightened to his full height as the fire lava began to glow under his scales, rushing along his chest and neck, demanding the red beast’s submission. He was about to remind Lachlan why they called him Fire Fury.

The other Dragon stood on his hind legs too. Ready for a fight. The fool was defiant as hell, and it wasn’t going to end well for him.

“Lachlan! Stop this at once!” Evie ordered, only to receive an adamant shake of his head.

“I’m trying to pull him back, but Saithar won’t listen to me!” he shouted, yanking on his Dragon’s scales. “I don’t know what’s gotten into him.”

Bullshit.

For a moment, I thought shit was about to go down, and I wasn’t going to lie, part of me wanted to see the two Dragons fight… but not while Tharion was holding me. Damn it.

“Enough!” I snapped, my voice becoming thicker, louder, and carrying farther than it should have—probably from the crazy amount of adrenaline rushing through my being. “Dragons, stand down!”

The order reached both creatures.

Heart thundering in my chest, I saw the red beast’s eyes fly towards me, his gaze locking with mine for a few seconds. His head whipped to the sides like a wild horse struggling against restraints, but after another roar, he finally fell on all fours, lowering his head.

Tremors rocked my upper body, surely due to the shock and rush the whole thing had caused me, but when I looked away from Lachlan and his beast, the blue glow of my ring reached me. I had no time to process what had just occurred as Tharion lifted me over his shoulder, and placed me on his neck. He, too, lowered to the ground. A large breath escaped his lungs, calming him, and he sat there, as though waiting for directions.

What in the actual fuck?

When my attention finally returned to those around us, I found everyone’s mouths agape. The rest of the Dragons were looking down. However, it was Evie’s ashen face that told me what had really happened.

It wasn’t a coincidence that Fire Fury and Saithar had ceased their fighting. Somehow, I had commanded them.
