The movement made the needles pierce my skin again, and I visibly cringed that time, forced to lower my eyes from him.

“I can help you,” Braxton offered, taking my hand, and guiding me to the bed to sit. “While I was with Raithian, I was able to use my magic again.” He knelt before me so I wouldn’t need to look up at him.

“You did? How?” Perplexed, I blinked at him, trying to put the pieces together while my guardian came to our side, sitting next to me. Instinctively, my head turned towards him, and I immediately regretted it. The damage to my neck seemed to go further than I had originally realized.

“May I?” my mate asked, lifting both hands towards me slowly.

I began to nod, cringing again. It was getting worse by the second.

“Stay still.” Braxton gently guided my head back to face him. “Don’t make any sudden movements.”

“I’ll try… Now, tell me what happened.”

“After Venom took us to the Woodlands, Raithian said he could feel the magic in me, and—”

“He, what?!” I jerked back from worry, accidentally hurting myself even more. A painful moan escaped me; I could not pretend any longer.

“Can you tell her after you heal her?!” Kingston barked, making Braxton sigh with guilt.

“Of course, I’m sorry.”

“He doesn’t have full control over his ability yet, Kingston. You can’t expect him to heal me at will.”

My guardian shrugged. “His father was a natural healer before he became the Harbinger of Justice. So was his father before him… After what he did to the portrait, I assumed…”

“He’s right,” Braxton added, gently rubbing my jaw with his thumb as though to help me relax.

It worked. His warmth engulfed my being with each stroke, his palms gently cupping my neck while he glanced at me. Love shimmered within the golden light capturing his irises, making melt in his hands.

“Raithian said he felt my magic since the first time he saw me, so he dared me to heal him,” my mate confessed. “His face was even more disfigured after I attacked him in the mindscape, and it was the only way he would let me come back. So, I had to try.”

“And you were able to? You healed him?”

“Yes.”

“But… How did you do it?” I questioned, stunned by his revelation, and a sweet smile tilted his full lips.

“Like I just healed you.”

Gasping, I lifted both hands to my neck after his left me. The pain was gone. Completely gone. Rotating my neck, I turned my head fully to look at my guardian, amazement flowing freely through my veins. “He really did it.”

Curiosity colored his expression as Kingston nodded.

I jumped to my feet, rushing to the mirror that hung on my wall to find the bruises fully gone. My skin had a reddish hue to it, probably from the prodding of my own fingers while I felt for the injuries that were no longer there, but the red and purple marks in the shape of rows along my throat had vanished.

“You did it!” I repeated, whirling to face him. “You healed me… How?” I asked yet again, needing to understand.

Braxton, walked to my side. “I pictured your neck free of the marks left on you and sent my energy—my magic—there.” His head shook and he closed his eyes, rubbing his hands over his face as though he was truly exhausted. “It was more instinctual than anything else, to tell you the truth. All I did was focus on the image in my mind and I could heal.”

When his hands fell from his face and he opened his eyes again, I sighed in relief. “The glow… it’s gone.”

“It is?” He frowned and walked past me to check for himself in my mirror. His shoulders sank, expressing the same relief I had just experienced. “I guess I ran out of juice for the day,” he joked, looking at me.

“Out of juice?” Kingston asked, joining us.

“Yeah, out of energy. I healed Tharion too. He was badly hurt from going against Azazel.”

“I feared something worse might have happened to him,” I admitted.
