It shouldn't come as a surprise. I have already learnt she is a woman who takes what she wants. It’s one of the things I like about her. She’s unapologetic in her desire to have whatever she wants.

She must be unhinged to come at me and my family like this.

I reach for a knife on the table, uncertain what I'm going to do with it. I need to let go of this rage. She made me feel so much that I have lost control of my senses. I will never forgive her for that.

I turn to the man I'm torturing. I need to stop screaming in my head. I slice at his chest, slipping the knife underneath until I am left with a flap of skin hanging off. He screams through the whole process until he finally passes out and I'm met with silence.

I don’t stop hacking at him, slashing. I let all my anger flow free long after he’s dead. I scream and yell my frustrations with every stab, every thrust of the knife. The blood sprays over me until I’m coated in it.

The beast inside me is roaring to be free, and I let it. I let go of every hold I’ve ever had on those demons that plague me, and I release it all.

Elena has broken every part of me in a way I don't think can be put back together again. I was letting her in. Elena was becoming everything to me.

How do we get that back?

The door opens, but I don’t register it. I don’t register anything but my carving.

“Kane.”

Zeke.

His voice penetrates through the bloodied fog consuming me. I glance over my shoulder towards him, numbness creeping through my body.

My brother is standing close to the exit, his eyes drawn together as he takes me in. I’m saturated in red, my shirt so stained I look like someone threw paint on me.

“You should leave,” I snarl at him. I'm still not sure how level I am, as anger buzzes through me, an insatiable rage I can't feed.

“Do you want to tell me why you're turning this man into modern art?”

“Because I can!” I yell.

My brother steps closer, a dangerous move considering how on edge I am. I would never hurt Zeke, not intentionally, but I am not in my right mind. Every inch of me is singing, anger spilling from every pore. I don't know how to rein it back in.

“Tell me what's happened,” he commands.

I step back and sink onto hardback chair in the middle of the room. It is usually used to tie enemies to as an alternative to the meat hook. The horror seeps through the very material it is made from into my bones. I hate her for doing this to us.

I hate myself for giving her this power.

Even the bloodletting is not working. I don't feel better. It doesn't soothe me in the way it used to.

“My wife is a backstabbing cunt.”

“The honeymoon period is over already?”

“Her father sent her and agreed to this marriage because he could use his daughter to spy on me. To spy on us.”

Zeke takes this in without speaking a word, and I can tell he's trying to sort through his thoughts before he gives them to me. “You are certain?”

“I heard her talking to Hamish on the phone. There is no mistaking the intent.”

Zeke leans against the wall and crosses his arms over his chest. “So, what do you want to do?”

I lift my blood-spattered eyebrows. “She betrayed us. I want to rip her fucking throat out.”

“I understand that. Did she find anything out?”

“Of course not. I don't keep anything like that at the house.”
