CHAPTER10

Ryan

Aurelia makes me lose control. That’s clear from the fact I’ve been buried between her legs twice since I brought her to the apartment. I’m supposed to be taking care of her, but I’m not sure this is what her brothers had in mind when they asked that. I’m sure they will cut my dick off and feed it to me for touching her, but now that I’ve had her, now that I’ve tasted her, I don’t think I can step away.

She’s getting under my skin.

I watch her as she moves around the apartment, trying to keep busy. Aurelia isn’t someone used to sitting around. Her parents always had her attending galas and functions. This isn’t normal for her.

I can tell she’s bored. A week of this and she’s going to be climbing the walls.

After speaking to Kane this morning about Charlotte putting out a reward for her return, I’m concerned. Money makes people do crazy shit they would not have contemplated before.

I won’t let Charlotte and Anthony near her. I’ll give my life to keep her safe if it comes to that.

Night is falling, the city lights starting to shimmer in the growing darkness. I don’t know what the fuck game I’m playing, but it’s a dangerous one.

She goes to the cupboards, opening them. “Is there no alcohol in this place?”

I’m not sure getting drunk is a good idea, all things considered. “I’ll have some brought over.”

I want to do everything to make this stay as painless as possible for her. Even if it’s just something as mundane as getting a bottle of wine.

Closing the cupboard, she sighs. “It’s fine. I just thought being drunk might make the time pass quick.”

“We can get drunk if you want to,” I tell her.

“I think I’m just going to get into bed,” she says after a moment contemplating this. “Sorry to be a party pooper.”

“You’re not.”

She fiddles with the hem of her hoodie, as if she isn’t sure what to do next, then she says, “Well, goodnight then.”

“Aurelia.”

I watch as she pauses before turning back to me. I want to say so many things, but I know I shouldn’t. “I’ll be here if you need me.”

She smiles. “I know.”

I check the apartment is locked up and make a coffee. I’ll take the sofa again, ensuring I’m between the door and Aurelia. I can survive on very little sleep—something the army taught me. I won’t sleep anyway, knowing she’s at risk.

I settle in front of the TV, putting on a show and switching the volume low.

I’ve watched a few episodes of some old sitcom when a scream pierces the air.

Before I can contemplate it, I’m up and rushing through the apartment. I shove into Aurelia’s room, flicking the light on as she jack-knifes up.

I scan the space and see nothing out of the ordinary, so I give my attention back to Aurelia.

She’s sobbing, her head buried in her hands.

“Another dream?” I ask, going to her. I sit on the edge of the bed and pull her into my arms. She comes to me without question, burying her face in my neck, her arms around me.

“Why won’t it stop?”

I hold her until she stops crying. Fuck, I wish I could dig Jeremiah Wood back up and end his miserable fucking life again.

Aurelia needs to talk to a professional, but considering who she is, that’ll never happen. A mob boss’s kid can’t talk to a shrink, even if she needs one. I stroke her back, trying to give her all the comfort I can.
