“They’ll give you that chance,” I assure her.

We get cleaned up and redressed. I’m in the kitchen making lunch when Luke calls to tell me he’s on his way over.

I wonder if he’ll know I’ve fucked his sister just by looking at me. I wonder what he’d do if he did know.

I can hazard a guess.

The knock on the door, even though expected, still has me on alert. I go to the front door, telling Aurelia to stay where she is. Peering through the peephole, I see Lucas Fraser standing on the other side of it.

I open the door, and he glances at me before stepping inside.

His dismissal doesn’t faze me. I’m used to fading into the background with this family—apart from Aurelia.

Luke goes into the living room, and when I follow him, he’s got his sister in a hug. Aurelia meets my gaze, her smile soft, before returning her attention to her brother.

“What’s happening?” she demands when they break apart. They both sit, and I move into the kitchen area, as if I’m a ghost, but I’m listening. I need to know everything that pertains to her.

“Charlotte and Anthony still have a call out to find you,” he says.

She grimaces. “While they do, I can’t leave the apartment.”

“No,” he agrees. “It wouldn’t be safe.”

“How long is this going to last?” she demands. I hear the frustration in her voice. “I know you, Zeke, and Kane are doing everything you can, but I’m tired of living like a prisoner. I want my life back.”

“And you’ll get it. Just be a little patient,” he tells her.

He doesn’t know his sister very well. She doesn’t have patience.

“I can’t stay locked up forever, Luke. There’s going to have to be a plan here.”

“Leave it to us. We’ll figure it out. That’s not why I’m here anyway.” He pulls a box out of his suit jacket pocket and hands it to her. “I brought you this.”

“A phone.”

“You need to be able to contact the rest of your family. No friends or anyone outside of us though. Money has a way of making loyal people turn their backs.”

That I agree with. Money fucks with people’s sense of morality, and we live in a world that didn’t have many morals to start with.

“Okay,” she says, placing the phone on the chair next to her. “Thank you.”

“You can call any time.”

“I know.”

“Are you two doing okay here?”

Internally, I freeze, but Aurelia just smiles. “We’re fine. The apartment is stunning. How could I not be fine?”

“You need anything, call.”

“I know.”

They talk for a while, but all I can focus on is the thought of getting her alone again. I want to know if she’s sore. I want to know if she’s okay after what we did.

Luke stays for so long I have to resist the urge to kick him out. When he finally leaves, I’m relieved to have her to myself again.

“Okay?” I ask her when we’re alone.
