“You know I’d do it if you asked me.” I don’t doubt him for one second. Knowing all the crazy shit he’s seen in his life—both with his uncle being a member of the Snakes and then Lya’s rocky past with Greyson—I genuinely believe he’d help me dispose of a body, no questions asked.

“That’s good to know. You free, by any chance?” My body is feeling jumpy, needing to get out of here. I need to blow off steam before I do something stupid.

“What do you have in mind?”

“I just need to punch something... or someone.” I’d prefer it to be Zayan, with Marnix coming in at a close second, but I don’t think either of those options will be possible.

“And you don’t think your husband is a good candidate for that?” It’s like he can read my mind.

“Not this time. I’d rather not see his face for a while.”

“Alright, I’ll be there in ten. Be ready.” He hangs up the phone before I can respond. I wrap up my wet hair into a high bun and put on workout gear. Hopefully, I can get out of here before anyone sees me, but considering Rush seems to watch everything, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to be possible.

I make it down the stairs and to the front door with only inches to go before a demanding voice halts me. “Where do you think you’re going?”

I turn to find Marnix standing there in jeans and a casual shirt with the sleeves pushed up. His arms are crossed over his chest, displaying the thick, corded muscles of his forearms.

“Out. Don’t wait up.” I give him a snarky smile, hoping he won’t be a pain in my ass for once.

“You’re not leaving,” he commands, like I’m supposed to bend to his every whim. Like I’m a captive in this home.

“You’re not my keeper.”

“You want to bet?” His voice is full of challenge, anticipating me to fight back, almost wanting me to. He’s giving me a hard glare, but I know he’s wanting me to push him. He’s craving the pull between us.

Well, who would I be if I didn’t aim to please?

“Sorry, Your Highness. Didn’t realize you suddenly became my dad. Are you going to punish me, Daddy?” Now I’m just straight fucking with him, trying to piss him off as much as I can before I leave. I know if I’m not out there when Zep arrives, he won’t have any problems letting himself in to see what’s taking so long.

“Stop fucking around. Where are you going?” he all but growls at me. His face is turning red and his muscles are bunched with tension. He’s going to snap any minute. I probably shouldn’t be testing him after what happened with Cohutta, but Marnix truly brings out the worst in me. Even if I wanted to, I don’t think I could stop myself.

“Away from here.” I shrug.

“I’m coming with you then.”

Hell no.I’m trying to get away from him before I beat his ass. Why would he want to come anyway? Pretty sure he’s still pissed at me for what he saw this morning, and anyway, he’d only be wasting his precious time watching me take my rage out in the gym. I’d rather put as much distance between us as I can.

“No, you’re not.”

“Then tell me where you’re going.” He’s not going to let it go. I get it—security is a big thing for rich people, but the idea of him monitoring my every move grates on my nerves.

“Zep is picking me up. We’re going to train,” I say through clenched teeth, trying to prevent myself from going fucking psycho on him.

“One of your friend’s boyfriends?” he snarls.

“You’ve met him multiple times, so quit acting like he’s such an insignificant blip on your radar that you can’t even remember his name.” That gets his attention. For once, he’s not responding with some asshole remark. “Cat got your tongue?”

“We have a gym right downstairs. Train here.”

I rub my chin like this is a hard decision, then give him a shit-eating grin. “Hmm, don’t think so. You’d probably be watching me on the cameras like a creep, so I’d really rather not.”

“Stop being a pain. If you fucking insist on being stubborn, Rush is going with you. I don’t want you alone.”

At least he didn’t offer to go again. Part of me wishes he would push to join, but I know he won’t. I don’t think he actually wanted to go in the first place, but only said that to deter me from going—he should know by now that I’m too stubborn to change my mind.

“Fine, Rush can come.” His jaw locks tightly at my words.

“So you’re fine with him, but not me?” There’s a hint of hurt lacing his voice, but it’s overpowered by the furious tension exuding from his body.
