“What is it?”

“You have a chance tonight. I know it’s short notice, but it’ll be the best chance you’ll get for a while. I hacked his email. He has some fancy-ass banquet tonight. If you can get in and out of his house unseen by the neighbors, then I’ll handle the cameras and alarms. If you don’t go tonight, we’ll have to plan something else.”

Novak told us the name of his partner a couple days ago and we usually like to spread things out to make sure we’re thorough, covering our tracks. It’s definitely earlier than we’d planned, but it’s perfect. We just do our usual. We break in, take a look around before we knock the fucker out when he gets back and drag him here. Josh already confirmed he’s our guy, but it’s always fun to see what kind of other secrets the trash we kill are keeping. We’ve made it a habit to do a little snooping in their personal space to see how much punishment they truly need. Sometimes they’re able to hide things off servers, locked away in places that Josh can’t get to, so it never hurts to check it out.

There's no need to argue, we both know we’re going to do it. “What time is this banquet?”

“Eight.”

Pulling the phone from my ear, I look at the time shining across my screen. Six. Fuck, we only have an hour to figure this shit out, then we’ll have to get going. I glance into the living room—Zamira’s head is still in Theon’s lap and Blais continues to rub her feet, entranced in the movie.

“That’s a tight squeeze, but we’ll make it work. I’ll let you know who’s going once we figure out the details.”

“Wait, you aren’t all going?”We always do our kills from start to finish together so I’m sure that just threw him for a loop.

“We have a little situation at the house. Look, I’ve gotta talk to the others, and I’ll get you the details. Text me the address.”

“Alright, but listen, Ace. I need to tell you someth—”

I cut him off, “I’ve gotta go. We’ll talk later.”

I pull the phone away from my ear, his protests softly coming from the speaker.“Ace, you’re not gonna like this. You need to know what I have to say.”I figure it’s something about our regular activities, but I don’t care right now. I need to talk to Blais and Theon about our new plans for the night. My finger hits the little red circle on my phone, ending the call, before shoving it back in my pocket.

The reflection off the pool water catches my eye. My mind automatically drifts to the night I went full monster. The darkness consumed me so much that I couldn’t see the reality of the situation. All I wanted was to break her, to use her fear to get her to talk. I fucking shot her in the arm right before I let her drown. If Blais hadn’t jumped in for her, she’d be dead.

My heart shatters at the thought of the girl who’s slowly chipped away at my stone heart not being here to choke, fuck, or love. It would’ve been all my fault. I would’ve hurt my brothers in a way they’d never forgive me for.

My evil almost broke my own damn heart.

I did the worst thing imaginable to her that night and she still agreed to be ours.

Zamira Stone is ours now. Her darkness feeds right into ours.

My eyes fall to the dark temptress like a magnet. Her blonde hair messily falls across Theon’s lap, her deep breaths blowing a few strands that fall over her face. She’s turned on her side with her cheek resting on Theon’s semi-hard dick, like a fucking pillow. Oh, how I wish I was him right now getting to hold her, touching her delicate body. Her shirt is pushed up, with his hand resting on her hip, his thumb gently rubbing on her bare skin.

This beautiful creature said she’s ours, and she’ll get to prove that with our next kill. If she’s going to claim to be one of us, she’ll spill blood with us, torture without remorse like us. I didn’t expect our test for her to be so soon, but I guess it’s better to get it over with and see if she’s really loyal now instead of possibly being fucked over in the future.

It pains me to even think that she might still be playing us, but trust has never come easy for us. Every inch of my body wants to let go and give in to her, but I just can’t, at least not yet. I know she’s still hesitant too, which makes this the perfect plan for all of us to put aside the bullshit and show just how loyal we all are to each other, just how much we are willing to give and put on the line for each other.

Theon’s eyes catch mine, and I motion for him to get Blais and come here. He nods, lightly tapping Blais, then motioning toward me. Blais’ brown eyes find me and I give him a curt nod, gesturing for him to get his ass in here.

I pace a little while I wait on Theon and Blais to squeeze out from under Zamira’s small body without waking her. Their footsteps on the hardwood make me stop and face them.

“What’s up? Did Josh find anything?” Theon asks, his brows almost in his hairline.

“Yeah, he’s our guy.”

“Fuck yes!” Blais celebrates, but I quickly shush him so he doesn’t wake Zamira. “Sorry,” he whispers through his smile. “I can’t believe it.”

“Me either. But we have a little change in plans, we need to go tonight. He has a banquet at eight, and Josh is going to help us out with the cameras and alarms he has for his house. We need to get in, do our usual snooping, then when he gets back, we knock him out and bring him back here.”

“Shit, tonight? Eight? That’s only two hours from now.” Theon’s voice comes out a little frantic. “That’s really pushing it. We haven’t even prepared for this.”

“That’s when he’ll be out of his house, but this thing will probably last hours, right? We just need to get our shit together and get you there as close to eight as we can.”

Confusion skates across both of their faces. “Wait, did you just say ‘you’? You aren’t going?” Theon voices his confusion.

“No. This job will take Blais’ stealth, and probably your size and strength. We’re not just dealing with an average man here. We need our best out there, and someone needs to stay with Zamira."
