“We could lock her in the room, Ace. This is the man who killed Allie. Why wouldn’t you go?” Theon raises his voice but not enough to stir Zamira. He doesn’t talk much to people he doesn’t know, but he talks to us. He rarely ever raises his voice like that though. It only ever happens when he’s extremely upset or agitated. Blais and Theon loved Allie like family so I understand why he’s upset. This is the big kill we’ve been planning for years. Trust me, I won’t miss his last breath for anything.

Looking over at the sleeping blonde goddess on the couch, I shake my head. “Don’t fucking question me, Theon,” I growl. “You both need to be there more than I do. If we’re all gone and just lock her in the room alone all night, she’ll know something’s up. I hate this as much as you all do, but this is the best plan. We want to put her on the spot to test her. I know we started this to find Allie’s killer, but this has become who we are. This is our darkness. I don’t see us stopping just because we found him, do you? We need her to be prepared for that.”

They both shake their heads.

“That’s what I thought. Plus, we just told her that she’s ours and locking her up will only put us in reverse, making her think we’re still playing a game, and she won’t trust us anymore.” My anger at their hesitancy is really shining through now.

“She’s going to be pissed at us for doing this.” Theon looks at her, like it’s the last time he’ll see her.

“Of course, but she’ll understand eventually. She will understand why we had to test her.” At least I hope she will.

We’ve had this little test planned so she can prove her loyalty toward us, but I can already tell she’s one of us. The kind of darkness that swirls in her eyes can’t be faked. She killed her ex-husband, she’s watched us torture and kill, and the excitement that lit up those bright blue eyes when she sunk the knife in Novak’s gut all point toward crazy psycho. She’s a beautiful one, but she’s definitely like us.

It might be fucked up that we’re doing this to her when we all know she’s the one who is meant for us, fitting perfectly in our fold, but we have to do it. It’s the only way we will all move forward together. Our first kill together will be the most significant. One we will remember forever, the one that will bond us forever.

My heart races with excitement at the thought of her pale skin turning pink in shock when we give her our little surprise. She’ll be shocked at first, but when we give her the truth about his evil, disgusting habits, she’ll turn into the dark, psycho girl that I know she is.

Only I get to end this bastard’s life, but we might as well let her think she’s in control for a while to show her loyalty.

His life is mine—no one else’s.

“Okay, man.” Theon holds his hands up in surrender. “So we bring him back here, tie him up downstairs, then what?”

“Let him sweat for a while. Maybe torture him for fun. Then we bring Zamira in, give her her choice and hope she makes the right one.”

“Are you sure we should include her in this? Isn’t there another way for her to prove herself?” Blais’ voice is filled with worry, which is understandable. He’s the one that believed she was like us since the beginning. He’s been obsessed with her ever since his knife sliced her stomach the day she woke up here. Shit, maybe even before that. He doesn’t want to lose her, and what we’re going to do just might. This could be the end of something that’s only beginning.

“Yes, I’m sure. It’s now or never.” I move my eyes from Blais to Zamira, admiring the peaceful expression on her sleeping face. “If she’s truly ours, she’ll show it tomorrow. She chose this life, now it’s her time to shine.”

Blais forcefully grabs the front of my shirt, scrunching it in his fist, causing me to growl as I pull my attention back to his dark eyes. “I don’t like this one fucking bit.” He’s in my face now, our noses tip to tip. “If this messes things up between us, I’ll never forgive you, Ace. You will lose a brother. She has given me hope, given me something to look forward to, and if it goes to shit, that’s on you.”

I’m staring straight into his eyes, but I still notice the snarl of his lip when he speaks. He means every word out of his mouth, but I’m not worried. She’ll make the right choice. I saw the truth in her eyes when I was balls deep inside her tight pussy yesterday.

“It won’t. It’ll be fine.” I shove him away from me. “Now get out of my face, brother, and get ready to collect our next kill.” Shaking his head, he huffs, heading upstairstoward his room. Probably going to grab as many knives as he can strap to his body.

“Do you have the address?” Theon’s deep voice pulls me from my trance on Blais’ retreating body.

I pull my phone out of my pocket. “Uh, yeah. Josh sent it, I’ll forward it to you.”

“Cool.” Theon sighs, turning to head downstairs to grab the supplies they’ll need. It’s crazy to think that we’ve been doing this for so long that it doesn't faze us anymore.

Reaching out, I grab his bicep, turning him back toward me. “Don’t let Blais do anything stupid. Don’t let him mess this up.”

“I don’t know if anyone can really control that man, but I’ll try.” I know exactly who could control Blais, and she’s in this very house right now, but I keep my mouth shut and nod, letting him go.

Fuck, it feels weird to not be going with them. I trust them to do this right and get our target back here in one piece so that I can tear him apart limb from limb, but loosening my control to make it happen isn’t as easy as it should be. They might think I’ve lost my edge since I won’t be there controlling the plan, but I haven’t. I’m just sitting back and managing from afar. I need this to play out perfectly with Zamira, because a part deep inside me needs to know with all the certainty in the world that I made the right choice by keeping her alive.

I could’ve killed her yesterday when she was chained in the basement, but I ended up fucking her instead. Which definitely wasn’t the plan.

When she woke me up with a syringe to my neck, I thought for sure it would end with me killing her. She couldn’t be trusted, she was coming after us, trying to bring us down. I thought that was the last straw—she needed to be killed before she ruined us.

Turns out she already had.

Everything changed when her pretty eyes looked at us with wonder after we told her every dark secret. When we finally opened up and told her who we really are. She never once showed any disgust like I’d expected. Her reaction confused me. I was conflicted on whether to kill her or not. My brain couldn’t keep up, it was spinning, driving me crazy. I want her, but I also want to strangle her most times. She’s pushed her way into our world, without feeling bad about it one bit.

I saw the look in Blais’ eyes. He loves her and I knew that he wouldn’t take her life, so I had to take it into my own hands. I had to force my hand not to shake as I pressed the knife against her neck. I couldn’t make my hand move, no matter how hard I willed it to.

The look in Zamira’s eyes told me she was scared. But I’ve put her in danger of death before, and she’s never had that look. That girl isn’t scared of death, so I knew she was scared of something else.
