The cool night air hits my skin when I stumble outside. Looking up and down the street, I see nothing. No sign of Novak.

Shit.

He got away.

Realizing I have no other reason to be here, I decide to head home for the night. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.

Ishould kill that fucker. The thought of him putting his slimy hands on her delicate pale skin, sends rage burning through my body. He’s been warned before countless times to keep himself in check, and I’ve had about enough of him. Something about this girl has me in a bad state, more than usual. My fingertips still buzz from the feel of her soft skin.

I’ve never had the urge to take a woman and lock her up in our house more than I have with the goddess that just graced us. The images of her blonde curls effortlessly falling down her back, the thin black material of her dress hugging her gorgeous curves, and her toned legs in those sexy heels, have been etched into my brain for the rest of my life.

Dark red heels, the same color as blood.

A normal person would think I’m insane feeling this way, considering I just met the woman, but damn, something about the mystery and anger in her eyes makes me want to find out more. She pulled me under with her allure, and I don’t know if I ever want to come up for air.

Fuck. Maybe I should sprint after her and hold her captive until my name’s the only thing she remembers. Her tantalizing blue eyes gave away the lust simmering within when she was trying her hardest to glare at me. My cock strains against the zipper of my jeans, begging to be released while her image flashes across my mind.

“Who the hell was she?” Ace’s rugged voice breaks through the vision I’m replaying of having her bent over my office desk as I pound into her tiny little body from behind while she’s screaming my name from those fuckable lips.

“No idea. I’ve never seen her here before, but it looked like she was here for a reason,” Theon says deeply, crossing his arms over his chest.

“What do you mean?” My voice is hesitant, not wanting him to ruin my fantasies of that girl. Clearly, I was too enamored of her to notice anything else, besides her little interest in Novak that I crushed.

“Seriously, man? You didn’t see her cutting daggers into Novak’s skull across the dance floor? It looked like she wanted to maul him.” Theon studies me with concern, unsure of where my head is at right now.

Both him and Ace think I get attached too easily, probably thinking she’s my latest fascination that will crush me to the ground. It only happens with someone worth obsessing over. I like to think I have a decent judgment of character, but I’m not sure they agree. Something about this woman, though, is captivating. Maybe I do already have a sick obsession with her, but judging by the glint I saw in her eyes, I’m not sure she’d mind too much.

“Of course I saw her staring at him, but I figured she was just looking for someone to hook up with for the night,” I say with a nonchalant shrug, even if the thought pisses me off.

Ace’s eyes flash with frustration at my response as he drags a hand down his face. “Some of us don’t always think with our dicks, Blais.” His eyes shift down to my crotch that’s still sporting the world's hardest boner. “She was glaring at Novak and watching him like a hawk. It’s like she was studying him. There’s something off about her that I don’t like.”

“You think she knows him?” Theon asks.

“I don’t think so. I mean she might knowofhim, but it didn’t look like she was on a personal level with him. She would’ve approached him if she was.” Ace rolls his shoulders back and cracks his neck. He’s the most controlled out of our group, but sometimes he lets his defenses slip, giving away his agitation. If he falters, it’s usually bad. We’re the only ones that can get through to him and even that takes a while.

“Maybe Blais is right. She could’ve just been trying to get in with him. Maybe she knows he’s loaded and wants to weasel her way in, get a nice payday?” Theon’s suggestion tugs at my chest. But I saw something else in her. It was like I really saw her in a way no one else has.

Honestly, I’m surprised Theon is agreeing with me. That man sees everything, reading people before they even know he’s looking, but I hope this time, both him and I are wrong about her.

“I’m not sure. She wasn’t throwing herself at him like other women do. It’s like she was being methodical. Taking in who was around him, what he was doing. Things like that.”

“What do you want to do about her? She didn’t give us her name and she’s gone now so we can’t ask,” I question, knowing Ace already sees her as a threat.

“I’m going to get the ID scanner.” Theon stalks toward the front doors to go talk to the bouncer. I attempt to follow him, but Ace shoots his arm out, smacking me in the chest and preventing me from going any further.

“Don’t,” he demands, cutting daggers at me.

“What? Relax, I’m not going to kill him in front of everyone. I just want to have a little chat.” My tone is casual, but I know I one hundred percent plan on killing that jackass.

“You and I both know that’s not true. We can’t risk you going rogue because you have some infatuation with a woman who snitched on the bouncer. Let it go before you cause more problems than we can fix.”

I snarl, puffing out my chest, but Ace doesn’t budge. “Fine. But someday, he’s mine whether you or Theon like it or not. Tonight will be his last working for us.”

Ace sighs but finally nods his head in agreement. I reluctantly take a step back, standing next to him to wait for Theon.

Looking around the club, I see people laughing, having a good time with no worries in the world, just enjoying their normal, average lives. They get to go to the club, get plastered, and escape their reality. Unfortunately, normalcy is nothing I—we—will ever have. That’s not how life worked out for us no matter how hard we tried.

There was a time when our fucked-up selves thought we could leave our problems behind to live average lives. However, things quickly changed when we lost Allie. Since then, we haven’t been the same and there’s no going back now.
