Turning to face the voice, my stomach drops when I get a good look at the person it belongs to. Her long dark curls fall gracefully over her shoulders, and her blue eyes pierce right through my soul. She has on a full face of makeup and a short, skintight black dress. She’s so much older than the other girls, making her stand out.

I can’t stop staring at her eyes.

Blue eyes.

Ocean blue eyes, like mine.

“Greyson,” she gasps in surprise.

“Mom.”

“Greyson…” Her eyes fill with tears as we stare at each other.

I’m unsure of what to say, or how to feel right now. Both shock and relief spread through my body at seeing her after all these years.

She’s alive. My mother is alive. I thought my father killed her, even though he said he didn’t.

He told me that she packed up and left with another man because she didn’t love us anymore. That we weren’t good enough for her. I’d assumed that she was dead all these years because surely there was no way she would have willingly left her child with an abuser.Or so I thought.

It’s like all the memories of my father come rushing back as I look into her eyes. The images of every single beating I took at his hands flicker through my head as I stare at her.

My feelings move from shock to anger. I’m standing face to face with the woman who left me with my father—the man who beat me, trafficked girls, and was an evil human being. She knew who he was and she still left me there.

How could she leave me with him? How could she do that to me?

“Greyson, you’re so grown-up.” She fills the silence between us, taking a step forward, closer to me.

I clench my jaw. “That’s what happens when you’re gone for fifteen years.”

She flinches like I just slapped her. I gulp, trying to swallow my feelings.

“Grey—”

I cut her off from whatever bullshit she was going to say. “What are you doing here?” I ask.

“Me? What areyoudoing here?”

I gave her a hard glare, staying silent. My stare makes her uncomfortable. She looks around the room to the other girls, suddenly noticing that all eyes are on us. I don’t give a shit whether everyone is watching, I just want answers.

“I... I live here.” What does she mean, she lives here? She’s with that scumbag? She left me and my dickhead father to be with this asshole?

“Fucking explain!” I roar, losing the cool that I barely had to begin with.

“I... I train the girls, manage them and get them ready for appointments,” she says quietly, dropping her head.

The memories of Lainey telling me about a Madame come flooding back to me. This lady she’s been talking about this whole time has beenmy mother.

The woman who fucking left me with the devil.

“Have you been here the whole time?”

She pauses before she answers. “Yes,” she whispers.

“You left me withhimto come here and help some jackass sell young girls’ bodies?” I ask in disbelief. Fuck, I knew I had one evil parent, but I didn’t realize they both were monsters.

Her tearful eyes meet mine. They seem to be filled with agony, which is getting to me, but I push it to the back of my mind.

“It’s not like that, Greyson.” Silent tears are now streaming down her face.
