“I met her when Dad was trying to turn me into his clone. I don’t have time for all those details right now; I just need to know where she is.”

“Greyson, she hasn’t been here in months. We haven’t seen her in a long time. I hope she’s alright. She went missing one night and never came back. Harvey’s been trying to find her, but he hasn’t had any luck.”

“She was alright until Sutton got ahold of her again.” I growl, trying to keep the words that bastard said from clouding my brain.

“He has her?”

I nod. “Is she here?”

“No”—she shakes her head—“he didn’t bring her back here. I haven’t seen him all day.”

Panic sets in.If she isn’t here, where is she?The only place I can think of is that second location. A light bulb goes off in my head.

“Rian. Lya.” My voice is commanding as I turn to face them. All four of them are leaning against the wall, tucked back in the corner so only I can see them from this angle. They rushed in after me, but kept their distance once my mom showed up. They look like absolute shit after what we all just went through.

Lya pushes off the wall, walking toward my mom and I, giving me her full attention.

“Can you hack the cameras of a second location and see if she’s there?” I ask.

My mom’s eyes meet Lya’s and she lets out a loud gasp as she takes in Lya’s presence. She lifts her hand like she’s going to reach out and touch her, but quickly drops it. “If... if you’re not Skye—I mean, Lainey—who are you?”

I didn’t even think how confusing this would be for my mother. Considering I’ve been in her shoes, not knowing Lainey was a twin, I’d say her reaction is justified.

“Lainey’s my twin sister. My name’s Lya.” I can tell Lya’s anxious to get to Lainey and doesn’t have time for a breakdown of their family tree. Lya looks at Rian, then back to me and nods. “We can hack the cameras but we’ll need a computer.”

I turn my gaze back to my mother. “Can you help us?”

“Greyson, that’s not a good idea.” Her voice is laced with fear. “If I help and he finds out, I’m as good as dead. He won’t hesitate to kill me. Anyone that ever betrays him ends up dead.”

I pull the gun from my waistband and raise it to her head. Her eyes widen with shock. I hate doing this. It feels wrong, but I need to get her out of view of the girls. I’m not sure if they’d tell Sutton, but I won’t take that chance.

“Office. Move.Now.” I nudge her back toward Sutton’s office, keeping the gun on her. Looking back at the four people I never thought I’d need, I motion for them to follow.

Once the office door shuts behind us, I drop the gun, shoving it back into my waistband. Relief fills my mother’s eyes.

“Why did you point a gun at me?” she asks frantically, jolted by my sudden reaction.

“I had to get you in here to talk. If I held you at gunpoint, they can’t tell Sutton you voluntarily gave us information.”

Not that I intend for Sutton to be alive much longer.

She nods in understanding, rubbing up and down her arms in a nervous gesture.

Lya looks at me like I grew a second head. “God Greyson, even we thought you’d gone mad. That was straight cold, but I think it worked. If we believed it, so will they.”

“It had to be believable,” I say calmly. I motion for Lya and Rian to open up the laptops, giving them as much detail as I have about the Adair house. They sit down and get to work.

“He’s going to find out, Greyson. Shit. This is bad, so bad.” My mom buries her hands in her hair and starts pacing in front of Sutton’s desk.

I step in front of her, grabbing her shoulders. “Look at me,” I command. Her fear-filled eyes meet mine, the bright blue reminding me of the ones that have haunted me in the mirror my whole life. “He won’t find out, and if he does, he won’t do anything to you. I’ll make sure of it—you’re under my protection now. We have a plan to take him down and save the girls in this house. You just have to trust me.”

“You have a plan?” she asks, her face scrunching in confusion.

“Well, we did and Sutton fucked it up, but we’ll find a way. I won’t stop until Lainey is safe and we”—I gesture at Lya and the others—“won’t stop until Sutton’s dead and the other girls are safe.”

“How?”

“I don’t know yet. We have to find Lainey first, then we can worry about that.” I turn my attention to Lya and Rian working away on Sutton’s computer. “Are you in?”
