He gives me an uncomfortable smile, so I change the subject.

“How did you guys find me? I didn’t recognize the place at all so it wasn’t one of his usual locations. Also, can you explain to me how the Snakes were involved?”

Everything about this situation is confusing. I hate being in the dark about what happened and clearly it’s pretty big, if an entire gang was brought in to help.

“Well, that’s complicated. Zep called in the Snakes, because we didn’t think we could do it alone. His uncle’s a high-ranking member. Apparently, he never wanted Zep in that life, but they were willing to help us, even though we’re outsiders.”

“What the hell? You got an entire gang to come find me?” My heart is fluttering at how far he’d go to protect me.

"Angel, I told you I was never letting you go. Nothing will stand in my way from having you forever. But as much as I’d like to take credit, it was Zep’s idea to bring them in. No matter what’s going on between me and them, those guys love you and would do anything to make sure you’re safe.” He gives me a gentle smile. I think he’s probably happy to know that no matter what, I’ll always have people looking out for me.

“Okay, that explains how you took down all of those men, but how did you know where I was?”

“I think that’s enough for right now. You need to get some rest so you can heal.”

Hmm, he’s clearly avoiding that question.

“Tell me, please. I’m not tired. I’ve been resting, and I need to know.” I’m being demanding but there must be a reason he’s avoiding answering.

“Lainey, you need to rest.” Oh, he used my name in a serious tone. He’s not playing around with his one at all.

“Just rip the bandaid off and say it.”

He clenches his jaw. “I went storming into the house you’d lived in, thinking Sutton was going to be there. Looking back on it now, it clearly was a very stupid decision. It was irrational and reckless, but all I could focus on was getting you back. I was scared that he would’ve already done something really bad to you.” He pauses, swallowing heavily.

“Okay, and? We weren’t there, so how did you know where to go?”

“Once I got rid of his men there, the girls started to panic. They were screaming and freaking out. All of the chaos caused Madame to show up.”

“You met her? Was she okay? Were the girls okay? Is Sasha okay?” Panic is flooding me now, thinking about how terrified they all must have been. He probably has no idea who Sasha is, but I still need to know.

“Calm down, angel. Yes, I met Madame, and the girls are all okay. We’re going to get them out, but angel... Madame isn’t who you think she is. Shit, I don’t even know who you think she is, but she’s...” His voice is unsteady, making my nerves grow even more. “Lainey, Madame is my mom. She’s my mom. She’s been two hours away this entire time and she was with you for most of it.”

Okay, that’s not a revelation I was expecting. My jaw is probably on the floor right now.

“What? No. That can’t be.” Did I actually hear him right or are the pain meds kicking in? Now that I’m thinking about it, she has beautiful blue eyes, just like Greyson. But I would’ve never realized that was his mom.

“Uhh, yeah. I don’t know how to feel about it, or really how to process it all, but my mom’s not dead, and she apparently didn’t leave me willingly like my dad always said. He’d sent her to Sutton and threatened to kill me if she ever tried to take me away.”

“Wow. This is, this is just... unexpected and wild.” I can’t even process everything that he’s just told me. This doesn’t even seem real at this point; I’m at a loss for words.

“So once we got past the initial shock of everything, she was able to tell us about a secret third location that Sutton had, and Rian was able to hack into the camera feeds there to see you and Sutton pulling up. From there, we immediately got our shit together and came to get you.” His voice is soft, letting me process everything.

“I can’t believe this. Your mom, Greyson. She’s alive. She was always good to me and the other girls, and tried to help us any way that she could. Are you going to try to have a relationship with her?”

“I’m not sure, honestly. I don’t know if I can or if I even want to now. I really don’t know. That’s something we can figure out later. But for now, I just want to spend time with my girl and forget the shit we just went through.” He plants a kiss on the top of my head, and leans his body further back into the bed.

He’ll have to explain more of what happened later, but at this point all I want to do is take comfort in the warmth of my man, and hope that all of the madness we’ve been through is finally over.

It’s been a little over a week since the plan to take Harvey became the biggest nightmare imaginable. A week of practically being useless with how injured I am. I was finally able to convince Lya that I could do the rest of my recovery at home.

There’s something about how sterile, impersonal, and bright hospitals are that makes me uncomfortable. Maybe it’s from everything I’ve been through that makes me hate them, but I’d rather be in the comfort of my own bed while I get better.

The swelling on my face has gone down, but I still look like a train wreck. My face has a compilation of purple and black bruises painted across it. The color scheme would be gorgeous if it wasn’t currently covering my face. It’s still hard to fully open my right eye, but it’s getting better each day.

I needed minor surgery on my hand to close up the stab wound. Luckily, it doesn’t look like there’ll be any long-term damage, but it’ll still take a while to heal, and it’s bandaged up tightly, meaning I have to do everything one-handed.

The doctor said I broke two ribs, probably from the combination of falling at the warehouse and Harvey’s punches. The rest of my body has cuts, gashes, and bruising across it. Nothing that can’t heal though.
