I just need Lainey in my hands so I can get her away from this place. Hopefully, I can do that without having to shoot Sutton, but I will if I have to. If he even thinks about getting in my way, that’ll be the last anyone hears of him, consequences be damned.

“That’s a pretty good deal for just one night with a whore.”

My fists clench at my side, and my chest burns in rage at his words. The way he casually calls her that reminds me of how my father treated the girls, only ever calling them merchandise and products. Lainey is not a whore and he’ll fucking pay for calling her that. Just not today—not until I know she’s safe.

“Well this one,” I say as I point to her picture, “plays into all of my fantasies, if you know what I mean.” Sutton’s smile grows wider and my stomach clenches at the thought of playing into his greedy hands.

“I’d take you up on that offer, but she’s not here at the moment. I told ya, she’s a popular girl.” He chuckles, but there’s a hint of nerves there. It’s barely noticeable, but his voice definitely wavers.

His raspy laugh pushes me over the edge, and my anger claws its way out of its hiding spot. “What the fuck do you mean she’s not here?”

“She’s out.”

I can tell he’s hiding something from me by the way he can’t look me in the eye when he speaks. I reach over the desk and grab the collar of his button-up shirt with both hands, getting in his face before he has time to react. The force of me grabbing him causes the top button on his shirt to pop off.

“Where thefuckis she? And you better not lie to me. If you lie to me, I’ll fucking kill you,” I threaten.

“This girl mean something to you?” he asks nonchalantly, as if I couldn’t choke him out right here and now. It’d be so easy to just end him, but I at least need to know where she is first.

“Fuck the girl!” I yell in his face, pretending that Lainey means nothing to me. I learned from a young age that people will go after those you love in order to hurt you, so I can’t let him know I care. “I hate being lied to, Sutton, and you’re hiding something.”

I release a hand from his collar, punching him right in the nose. A crack ripples under my fist as it connects, and I can’t help but grin at his suffering. I told myself I’d try to remain calm, but clearly that plan went out the window the moment I saw this fucker’s smug smile plastered across his face.

“FUCK!” Sutton shouts in pain, as he moves a hand to cover his now broken nose. Blood oozes through the cracks of his fingers, the sight bringing me an obscene amount of pleasure.

“Now tell me Sutton, what are you hiding from me? If you don’t tell me, I’ll make sure youneverget girls again. I have connections with all the other suppliers around here, and I’ll ensure they know how fucking slimy you are.”

I know guys like him. He’s the type who cares more about his business and making money than his own life. He’d risk dying for the sake of making an extra dollar.

“I don’t know where she is.” Sutton’s voice comes out muffled from behind his hand.

What the fuck?

“Did I just hear you say you don’t know where one of your girls is?” I demand in a low, dangerous voice. I shove him away, and he stumbles backward, falling clumsily into his black office chair.

“She went missing…”

Missing? How did she just go missing?

“When?”

“About six months ago. I’ve tried looking for her, but I can’t fucking find her.”

A low, slow growl escapes me at the thought of being at square one again.

“Did you even try? Don’t you have resources to find her? Are you that incompetent that you can’t even manage to control your girls?” I’m fucking pissed now. He’s careless and reckless. Of course getting Lainey away from this hellhole is my priority, but if he’s just letting girls go missing, that could be bad for everyone involved. In all honesty, I probably deserve to be caught with all of the bad things I’ve done, but I refuse to let that happen before I’m reunited with my girl.

“Of course I tried. She vanished into thin air. One minute she was here, and the next she was gone.” His voice is now trembling in fear. This big bad wolf is nothing but a scared sheep.

Six months ago.

Fuck.

It’s been about six months since Lya and her three shadows left me for dead in that abandoned house in Craibridge. They must have found her before I could. It’s the only thing that makes sense, considering the timing. I watched them for months and never saw any sign of her, so they must be hiding her well. Even Sutton has no idea where she is, so they must have covered their tracks.

My rage builds at the thought ofthemhaving a happy little life with Lainey. She should be with me!

I move around his desk, grab a pen off of it, and stab it into his right thigh without warning. I’m really fucking unhinged right now, so I’m not thinking rationally, but the strangled scream that escapes his throat is almost enough to get me hard.
