Her words hit me right in the place where my heart would be, if I had one.Why does she have to be right?I’d absolutely do what they did—or worse—if it meant saving her.

Before I can get a word in, Lya speaks. “You’re right.” Her voice causes Lainey to turn away from me with a stunned expression. “But that doesn’t mean we’ll ever fully forgive him. He had good intentions, I’ll admit that, but it’s still too raw right now. I just don’t get how you can be with him.”

“I understand that, but everyone is going to have to get along a little bit because we all need each other.” Lainey’s words cause everyone to frown in confusion.

What is she talking about? I don’t need them.

Rian scoffs. “We don’t need him.”

“Actually, you do.Wedo. To take down Harvey Sutton,” Lainey announces.

Confusion hits me hard.

“What do you mean?” Lya asks, as she leans back against Thiago.

“I mean that your plan isn’t working, so we need Greyson to help us get to him.”

What does she mean, their plan isn’t working? What plan?

“Explain,” Lya demands. Agreeing with Lya for once, I stay quiet, wanting Lainey to elaborate.

She shrugs. “You aren’t getting hits on that ad, so I figure Greyson could help, since he obviously has connections. Maybe he can help us get to Harvey.” As Lainey explains, understanding flashes across Lya’s face.

“Does someone care to explain what’s going on here? You have a plan to take down Sutton?” I’m confused, and starting to get a little angry. Whatever this is, she’s been keeping it from me.Does she not trust me?

“Grey,” Lainey whispers, taking my hand in hers. “They set up an ad online to try to lure Harvey out, so they could take him out and save the other girls in the house.” The look in her beautiful eyes tells me just how much she cares about those girls.

She assumes I have these great ties to Sutton, but I don’t... I mean, for fuck’s sake, I only recently learned that it was him that I was selling to the whole time. I’d always thought Genesis was the head of that operation.

“You won’t get him that way.”

Lainey’s brows scrunch in confusion. “What do you mean? I thought that’s how he does business—online.”

“He does, but he never goes to actually pick up the girls himself. He has his trusty soldier Genesis pick them up and deliver them to him. He’s the head of the operation, but doesn’t waste time getting his hands dirty.”

“Genesis?” Zep’s raspy voice pulls my eyes from Lainey, and I give him a nod. “Fuck! We had him. We fucking had him and didn’t even know it!” His furious voice booms through the room.

“You said you sent his beaten and bloody body back to his boss as a warning… So that boss was Harvey?” Lainey’s eyes widen.

“Fuck,” Lya curses. “Lainey, I didn’t want to tell you this because I didn’t know how you would react, but we didn’t actually do that. We—or rather, I—killed him and we cleaned up the mess. When we were getting information out of him, he never mentioned Sutton’s name. He definitely hasn’t given us anything we could use to take Sutton down. But fuck, Sutton’s definitely going to notice his guy going missing.”

Lainey takes a step back and just stares at her sister. I’m not sure what she’s going to do next, but I’m watching closely in case I need to step in. After a minute, she turns to me. “Can you help us?” Her beautiful eyes search mine for some sort of hope after that bombshell.

“Yeah, I think so. It’s actually good that they got rid of Genesis. From what I understand, Sutton has used him for years and trusted him closely. With him gone, Sutton probably won’t have anyone else at the same level. We just need to get in there before he finds a new second-in-command. I went to one of his houses recently. Now that we both know each other, I can just contact him and set up a deal directly. He might not go for it at first, but considering Genesis won’t have come back, he’ll probably start getting desperate. And since he’s done deals with my father’s organization before, he knows that I’d be a clean source.”

“Why shouldwetrust you?” Lya asks. She has every right to be suspicious. I don’t trust them either.

“I want to take down Sutton just as much as you for what he did to Lainey.”

Lya’s eyes fill with defeat, but understanding. She clearly knows this is their only option now. We’re all going to have to work together. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I need them too. We’ll need the manpower to take him down, and the only other people I know in the trafficking industry will be on Sutton’s side.

“Okay… Say we went along with this, how would we do it?” Lya’s in charge of the decision, that’s apparent. By the way the guys are looking at her though, they really don’t agree with this idea.

“Lya! You’re not seriously considering this, are you?” Rian demands.

She turns and puts her hands on his chest. “Yeah Rian, I am. This is the only way. We have to save those girls in that house, and Sutton needs to pay for his disgusting crimes.”

Rian growls. “No, I won’t do it. I won’t let you get sucked into his trap again.”
