“What other choice do we have then? Do you have any other ideas?” she asks softly.

His angry expression turns to deep thought, before twisting to a mixture of anger and defeat. “We can wait for more hits on the ad. We can create different ones.”

Lya shakes her head. “We don’t know how long that would take, and Sutton will already be cautious about going down that road now that Genesis has disappeared.”

“Nash is our way to Sutton,” Thiago agrees, staring me down.

Zep snorts. “Keep your enemies close, right?”

“If that’s how you want to see this, then okay. But you need me either way.” I take a step to stand closer to Lainey, resting my hand on the small of her back.

“We don’t fucking need you,” Rian insists, shooting me daggers.

Ignoring him, I look back at Lya. “To answer your question, I’ll contact Sutton directly and tell him that I have a couple of young girls for him to come look at.”

Thiago raises an eyebrow. “I thought you said you weren’t in the business anymore?”

“I’m not, but he doesn’t know that. He thinks I’ve just been dealing older girls. He likes his younger when he first gets them, says they’re easier to train.”

Lainey places her soft palm in mine, intertwining our fingers. Lya glares at the movement, but continues the conversation. “Okay, then what?”

“I’ll set up a meeting with him in one of my old warehouses, and we take him down.” I make it sound so simple, but in reality, there’ll be a lot of working parts to this plan.

“I thought you didn’t use the warehouses anymore,” Zep says dryly.

They’re already questioning everything I say. I can tell how this is going to go.

“I don’t, but I know that Sutton likes to use them, based on past deals with Genesis. I’ll choose one that we’ve used for business with Genesis before, and that might make him feel more comfortable.”

“Okay… but when we kill him there, how do we get the girls out of the house?” Lya asks. They’re all looking at me like I magically have the answer to everything, just because I’ve trafficked girls before. It’s not something I’m proud of. Plus, I’m thinking up this plan on my feet.

“Well, we take him down along with the men he brings out, then Lainey can tell us how many others are probably left and where they’re likely to be. We’ll have to follow them up right after, because we don’t want word getting back, giving them time to either plan a defense or disappear with any of the girls.”

It’s the best I can come up with off the top of my head.

“Are you okay with this, Lainey? You really trust him?” Lya asks, looking deep into Lainey’s eyes.

Lainey nods. “With my life.”

My stomach churns. She’s saying she trusts me, yet she didn’t even tell me about this plan to take down Sutton. Who is she lying to—Lya or herself?

Lya huffs. “I really hate the idea of working with you, but the plan is good. It needs some tweaking, but it could work.” Lya shoots me an irritated look before turning to head into the kitchen.

“Wait,” Lainey yelps. “Before you go, I have one condition. Greyson only helps as long as you don’t keep us apart.” She stands confidently now, with her arms crossed over her chest. I love how she looks standing up for us.

Lya looks between her guys, and they all give her small nods as if they can read her mind. She sighs. “Before I say anything else, I want you to know that I don’t fucking trust him.”

“Okay… but?” Lainey takes a step forward, hope clear in her voice.

“No more sneaking out to see him—and he sure as hell isn’t staying overnight here.”

“So, I can see him here, and he just can’t stay the night?”

“Yep,” Lya says, popping the p. She’s agreeing, but there’s no mistaking the reluctance lacing her voice.

Lainey squeals with excitement and jumps into my arms, wrapping her legs around my waist. Her face quickly turns to panic as I wince in pain.

“I’m so sorry, baby. I got too excited.” She keeps her legs around me but leans her chest back, away from the wounds there.
