“Correct.”

Nina and Josh both get turned on by arguing. It’s their thing. And whenever they’re together, they argue, so a friends-only arrangement doesn’t work for them.

“You two will argue even if Kyle and I are there.”

“Not if you stop us.”

“That’s impossible. Once you two start, it never ends. And I don’t know why it bothers you so much. It always ends with sex.Greatsex, according to you.”

“Yes, but we can’t have a relationship, even just a friendship, if all we do is argue. It’s gotta stop.”

“It’s not like you guys are mean to each other. It’s more like flirty teasing than arguing. And I can tell you both like it. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t keep it up.”

“Will you do this or not? Tonight at seven. You pick the place.”

“I’ll call Kyle and ask him.”

“Let me know.”

“I will. Bye.” I call him up. “Can we go out tonight?”

“Is this my hot sexy neighbor?”

I smile. “I think so, unless you say that about all your neighbors.”

“I was just thinking about you.”

“You were?”

“Yeah. I was wishing you were here right now.” He says it in a sexy voice that turns me on.

“If only my lunch hour were longer.”

“We could make it work.”

“Not today. Helen has a date and I told her I’d cover for her if she’s late.”

“Helen has a date?”

“I know. I was surprised too. It’s some friend of her cousin’s. Anyway, going back to tonight. Nina wants to have dinner with us. Josh is coming to town and she doesn’t want to be alone with him.”

“Because they’ll end up having sex?”

“Yes.” I’ve told Kyle all about Nina and Josh. I asked Nina before I told him and she didn’t care. In fact she encouraged me to tell him so she could get a guy’s opinion on what to do. He said she should just date him and stop finding reasons not to, which I’ve also said, but she doesn’t listen. She’s very stubborn.

At least she changed her mind about Kyle. I thought she’d never stop calling him a serial killer but she finally did after she saw how good he is to me. He not only buys me groceries but he also makes me dinner. He’s not a great cook but he’s better than me and keeps improving. He even had Nina over one night, which is when she finally took me aside and admitted he was a nice guy. And she likes his motorcycle. She thinks it’s hot.

“I’ll have to pass on dinner.”

“Why?”

“I need to write. I’m in the middle of a chapter.”

I’m dying to read his story but he won’t let me read a single page. I’ve never even seen the manuscript or the laptop he uses to write it. Whenever I tell him I’m coming over, he hides everything away. And the few times I’ve stopped by to surprise him, I’ve seen nothing. Not even his laptop sitting out.

“We don’t have to stay long,” I tell him. “She said I could pick the place so I’ll pick someplace that’s fast.”

“Which means pizza or barbecue, which we’ve already had this week.”
