“I don’t believe for a second you had anything to do with Gregorius’s murder, Master Lefric,” Master Daron called after us. “And I’ve been telling my customers as much too. Make sure that Lord Olympus knows that.”

“I will,” Lefric called back to him as he reached us. “And thanks.”

I still wanted to shake my head as Lefric joined us and said, “I guess you’re free to wander around the city with us today.”

“Perfect,” Hayk said, moving to my side and draping his arm around my shoulders. “I’m eager to get to know your friends.”

The way he smiled at me made it clear that it was me he wanted to get to know, and damn the others.

At least, that’s what he made me feel like as we continued along the waterfront. But it could have just been a trick he’d learned as a whore to get more business.

“Have you taken your friends to the cross-point yet?” Billie asked, slipping her hand into Lefric’s and swinging their arms as they walked on.

“You think that’s where we should start?” Lefric asked.

Billie shrugged. “It’s the place where merchants and traders used to bid for cargos when Good Port was first founded,” she told the rest of us over her shoulder as she and Lefric took the lead. “It’s one of Good Port’s most historic sites.”

Apparently, it was something not to be missed. Everyone fell into line behind them, Sebald and Avenel at the front, asking questions, of course, and Peter and Neil, Jace and Gennadi starting up a conversation of their own as we all walked on.

I wondered if it was my imagination, but Hayk seemed to hold me back until we were a few paces behind everyone else.

“So,” Hayk began, as though discussing the weather. “It was definitely a hard fuck if your hole is still sore enough to be warm and swollen. But what I want to know is if you were willing or if I have to go find that pig’s prick, Dmitri, and shove my fist down his throat to teach him how to treat people.”

I nearly stumbled over an uneven spot in the cobblestones.

“You don’t even know me,” I mumbled, writhing with embarrassment for about ten different reasons. One touch of my asshole and Hayk had figured out far too much of my story.

Hayk shrugged. “I know how it goes is all,” he said. “You’re cute, but you’re unhappy. That intrigues me.”

“You don’t know anything about me,” I insisted, letting my shame turn into anger…like I always did.

Hayk laughed. “I know you’re a sex slave who hates his master, and you’re ashamed of it. I know you’re someone important because you’re friends with Lefric, and I’m guessing the situation you find yourself in feels degrading to you. But you’ve got fire in your blood, which tells me you’re not the sort of man who gets pushed around for long.”

I stopped and gaped at him. My heart beat faster. My fingertips felt numb. I wasn’t sure whether I was furious…or turned on.

Hayk took a couple more steps before realizing I’d stopped. He turned back to me, his grin downright impish.

“What, am I wrong?” he asked, spreading his arms.

The sunlight glinted off his tanned chest and made his hair look like a halo, but he was no angel. The opposite was more like it.

And he wasn’t wrong.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” I said, starting forward at a faster pace so my friends didn’t get too far ahead of us.

“Yes, you do,” Hayk said, falling into step with me. His tone wasn’t teasing or jarring, like Jace’s or Peter’s would have been. It wasn’t pitying either, like Lefric or Sebald might have been. He just…understood.

“How long have you been sucking cocks for a living?” I asked instead of giving him another peek at my soul.

Hayk laughed out loud. I probably deserved it. I’d been deliberately pissy.

“Four years,” Hayk answered. “Billie and me both. Our father sold us to Master Daron so he could buy a new fishing boat.”

“He what?” I was appalled, outraged.

Hayk just grinned. “Lefric hasn’t told you all about us? I’m hurt. Lefric, why didn’t you tell your handsome friend all about us?” he called forward.

Lefric was in the middle of saying something to Billie, but he glanced back to us as he continued to walk and said, “I did tell him. I’m sure I did.” He paused, glanced to Billie, then at Peter and Neil, then said, “Maybe it didn’t come up.”
