Tamara reached out to Claudia and held her hands.

“This life may not seem like a lot to you, but I do more here going out only at night than I did ever when I was back home.”

Claudia was confused and it must have shown on her face.

“Things weren’t what they seemed,” Tamara murmured.

“What are you talking about. You must have done a lot of things. You have the best manners, and you are so articulate. When I asked you about fashion and style you knew it all. That kind of thing comes from a very active life and – “

Tamara squeezed Claudia’s hands and she stopped talking.

“It just meant that I know how to do research, I read a lot of magazines and books,” Tamara said. “I didn’t’ want anyone to feel sorry for me. I never said I went out with famous people or knew them; I just didn’t correct anyone when they made the assumption.”

“Oh,” Claudia said. It seemed like such a little word for the occasion. Going over all of the times Tamara had given her input it was true, she had never confirmed or denied that she knew anyone or had gone anywhere. Everyone just assumed from the way she talked that she had.

“I’m sorry that you felt that you had to pretend with me,” Claudia said.

“Don’t be sorry. I made my own decisions and at the end of the day I’m here because another person took advantage of my weakness as well.”

“He did more than just take advantage of an opportunity,” Claudia protested.

Tamara dropped her hands and then wrap them around herself.

“You know in the beginning you can say that Claudia. In fact, in the beginning that is what I said that he just didn’t know any better. I told myself that it would get better as time went on. When it didn’t I didn’t want to be a failure in front of everybody and his speech and looks were so good that I knew no one would believe me when I said he was so bad.”

“You know Tamara I always wondered why you didn’t reach out to other family. I hadn’t found Olivia yet but as soon as we did realize we were related I knew she would do anything for me.”

Tamara gave Claudia a wane smile.

“I was not the child my father wanted. I was a girl and his only surviving child. He had dreams that if he didn’t have a boy he would be able to attract a good one with me. That didn’t work out as well as he had thought but finally there seemed to be a taker. My dad always reminded me that the least I could do was keep a man. When I brought him up to speed on my situation, he wasn’t happy with me, and he blamed me. When I got the scar, he said it was proof that I had been difficult and looking for attention.”

“I didn’t know. Forgive me for prying.” Claudia said. Tamara waved her apology off.

“Family is a luxury, but this time around I chose my family and that’s why I’m with you Claudia. You are my family now.”

Claudia smiled.

“Well, it’s great to finally not be the baby in the family anymore.”

Tamara gave her a grin.

“Hey, a couple of months and three hours doesn’t give you a lot of ruling power, so don’t let the big sis thing go to your head,” Tamara joked.

“Me? No way!” Claudia said and the both of them laughed it away.
