His heart softened a little.
I should see if she needs anything.
Putting his phone up to his ear, he pulled his keys out of his pocket while the dial tone rang in his ear. He unlocked it, watching the lights flash back at him, fully expecting her voice on the other end by the time he got over to it.
What surprised him more was the sound of her voicemail.
He pulled the phone away from his ear and looked down at the screen. Their text thread, which could be seen underneath his call bar, showed the little notification at the bottom of his message statingread.
What the hell?
“Well, well. Look who it is.”
Dylan lifted his head and whipped around, spotting two shifters walking toward him. Their gaits were hurried and purposeful.
He didn’t recognize either of them. Both were almost as tall as he was, with long black hair tied low at the back of their necks. Leather jackets and tight-fitting pants adorned their bodies.
His brow furrowed. “Can I help you?”
The male spoke first. “We’re here on a business call.”
His brow popped. “For?”
The female spoke next. “Tish Black.”
There was a long beat of silence that fell over them as Dylan tried to figure out just who the fuck that was. It was no one he’d ever heard of, let alone someone that would need to send two shifters to harass him over.
Dylan ran his eyes over both shifters, pocketing his phone. “Can’t say I recognize the name.”
“She’s an up-and-coming star,” the male spoke again. “And you need to stay out of her business, Kirby. Or else.”
He smirked, feeling his tiger waking. “Or what?”
The male shifter brought his fingers up to his chest and cracked each knuckle individually while the female twisted her neck a few times, cracking it.
Dylan let his shoulders roll back in place, juicing up his muscles. Honestly? A fight between two bone-heads was just what he needed to distract himself from going insane over Rose right now.
His stupid alpha brain was running through all sorts of doomsday scenarios that were more than likely untrue and dumb enough to scare her off if he actually got caught up in one of them and ended up at her apartment banging down her door.
For now, he’d give her the space she clearly needed. And in the meantime, he’d get to crack some skulls on the pavement.
Shifting first, Dylan sprang forward and collided with the female shifter. Crushing her to the pavement before either of them had a chance to think. She shifted under him, her tall body replaced with a cobra that struck her venomous fangs at him.
He growled, snapped his teeth back, and was lifted off her and thrown straight through the air by a powerful grip at the back of his neck. He let out a snarl and twisted his body around, landing a few feet away between cars.
That was the one advantage to being a tiger shifter ... cats always landed on their feet.
The male shifter ... a giant silverback gorilla ... let out a loud roar and pounded his fists against his chest.
Dylan lowered himself to the ground, eyes darting between both of them. The cobra struck first, lashing out at him with her fangs outstretched again. Thankfully, he was quicker, though. Snatching her right out of the air between his teeth and tossing her against one of the cars closest to him. She smacked it with a hard thud, her partner ... or brother? He couldn’t really tell ... let out another roar.
Dylan leapt up onto the car next to him, barely missing the gorilla’s fists smashing down onto the hood of the car where he’d just been standing. The entire car shook, bending inward and groaning from the force while the glass from the windshield shattered.
Quickly bouncing off it, Dylan wound himself back around and hopped up onto another car. Taking the split second between the male shifter turning his big body around to face him and pounce on his back.
He sank his teeth into the thick pelt, biting down until he could feel skin give way.
The gorilla shifter let out a loud howl in pain, his hands grappling back to grab at him. It only made Dylan sink his nails into his back and hold himself in place.
