“You’ll need to take your bra off to see how it fits,” Lucy said.
Cassie removed her bra, covering her bare breasts with the bodice. She adjusted the top. “Should I get a bigger size?”
“No way. It’s perfect.” Lucy crossed her arms, inspecting the dress with a careful eye. “Why do you keep those boobs hidden? If Owen didn’t appreciate them, you need to find someone who will.” Lucy gave her a knowing smile.
She returned to the mirror. “If I’m not careful, they’ll fall out.” She toyed with the bodice.
Lucy pursed her lips in concentration and fiddled with the straps. “Don’t worry. The bodice is lined and it’s snug enough. I don’t think the girls will spill out,” Lucy said with a wink.
Cassie frowned at her friend.
“You’ll be fine.” Lucy patted Cassie’s arm. “You look sexy. It’s time to embrace who you are.”
Somewhere along the way, Cassie had lost the confidence to wear whatever she wanted. It was time to take it back.
One of the toddlers cried, followed by the other.
“Time to go.” Lucy gathered her scarves. “I’ll meet you out front.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
Lucy stood at the door. “Promise me something.”
“What?”
“Call me if you ever need to talk about what Owen did. I don’t care what time it is. I’ll be there for you.”
“Thanks. I feel a lot better,” Cassie said, moved by her friend’s support.
“Good.” Lucy gave her a big hug. “I’ll pick out some heels for you to wear with it.”
“All right.” Both babies cried in unison. “Now go see your baby girls.”
Cassie took a final look in the mirror and smiled. She would buy this dress and wear it. Maybe she’d wear it tonight.
