Falcon’s cheeks flush red. “I canno’, in good conscience, leave a lovely lass like ye’ out ‘ere to die. Come on, then. I’ll take ye’ to our thicket.”
“We’re not going anywhere with you,” I snarl at him.
Falcon moves in closer.
“What did I tell you about putting your cock in my face.”
Ember stifles a laugh, and Falcon grins at me, though he does move back a few feet. “I am not going to harm ye’, though I will no’ pretend I like ye’. It’s her I wish to protect.”
“And I know your kind will not hesitate to sell us out should you see fit.”
Falcon shakes his head angrily. “Ye’ know nothin’ of my kind.” As if to demonstrate, he reaches behind and withdraws the dagger I gave him earlier. Then, he offers it to me.
I stare at it.
This is not behavior I would have expected from a pixie.
“Take it, then. Ye’ gave it to me, and I’m givin’ it back as long as ye’ let me keep ye’ safe for the evenin’. The thicket is not far from here.”
I glance from the dagger to him and then back to Ember.
She shrugs, letting me know she has no issue with what he’s offering. But that’s only because she doesn’t know their kind like I do. Something howls in the distance.
Still, a thicket full of pixies would likely be better than a tree surrounded by beasts.
“You so much as think about betraying me and I will feed you your cock.”
Falcon blanches, but recovers quickly and turns to Ember. “I doona’ see what you see in him.”
“He always catches me,” she replies with a grin up at me. My heart warms as my adrenaline surges.
I will keep her safe.
I will always catch her.
Until I draw my last breath—or she does.
