The further we got into the show, the more complicated things became. We had an entirely different relationship blooming behind the scenes than the one that would play out on national television. And it was becoming harder and harder to keep them separate.

“Look at me.”

“I’m sorry, that was out of line—”

“Harper. Look at me.”

She raised her head to meet my eyes, tears brimming.

“There’s no competition, because you blow them all away. You always have.”

“Flynn.” She sighed my name, emotions clearly warring against one another on her face.

Ignoring the cameras, I closed the space between us. Hooking my hand below her jaw, I brought her lips to mine, relief flooding through me as our lips touched. Every time we kissed, it was familiar yet new. Different emotions poured into the moment, fueled the energy. Tonight, I hoped she could feel my reassurance.

“You’re it for me, buttercup,” I whispered against her lips. A dim part of my brain alerted me to watch what I said, that we weren’t alone. But another part of me didn’t care. I’d waited forever to get to this point. I wanted her to have enough reassurance from me to keep her going, to get us through these last weeks.

From what I could tell, the gloves were off, and we were in for a fight.
