“You marched into a supernaturally guarded building with nothing but a map and two cops armed with guns, then pulled me and every single one of my friends out of a situation that would have likely resulted in our deaths. I’d say we’re well past even.”

She blushes, and Felix glances down proudly. “You’d give Xena a run for her money,” he says softly.

Before I can ask who the hell Xena is, Elijah clears his throat. “Are you guys going home tonight?”

“If they can stay here, that’s probably for the best,” Paloma interjects. “They won’t confront you in public places, due to The Accords, but that won’t stop them from coming after you while you’re sleeping. I’ll be on pack lands, so I’ll be safe,” she adds when Deissy opens her mouth to argue.

Deissy chews on her bottom lip and nods. “Yeah, I don’t know that I want to go home until this is over.”

“We can stay,” Felix offers.

Deissy sighs. “I can shut my place down for now. I have a little bit of wiggle room financially.”

“I can cover any losses.”

“No.” She shakes her head at me. “It’s my business, my ass to cover.”

“And you’re in this spot because of me. Trust me, Deissy, I have the funds to help, so let me.”

She looks almost like she’s going to deny me again, but after glancing up at Felix, she nods. “Only because we’re still trying to save for a wedding.”

“Good.” I don’t bother mentioning that I plan to pay for that, too. After what they did, I will be setting them up for life.

Ridley reappears with bags full of groceries. “Anyone hungry?”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Winnie rushes forward alongside Ivan, and together, they gather all the grocery bags. “Where’s the kitchen?”

“Through the double doors.” Ridley gestures to two French doors to the left.

The two of them rush off with the bags.

“Ridley?” Paloma asks.

“What’s up, Cap?”

“Do you think it would be possible to take us to and from the office for our shifts? We can travel if need be, but I figured that would make it far more difficult for us to be followed.”

“Sure. As I said, I’ll be hanging around. Besides, you’re going to need help if Fearghas’s sister shows up as I suspect she might. She and Lucy were pals.”

Interest peaked, Fearghas stops mid-conversation with Eira and turns to Ridley. “I didn’t realize you knew Sheelin.” His tone is dark and laced with anger. Given that Sheelin murdered their father, I completely understand why.

“Met her a time or two when she was here with Lucy. Real bitch. No offense.”

“None taken. As far as I’m concerned, we are not related. It takes more than blood to make family,” he says, glancing at Rainey.

“Yeah, well, given that I not only helped you lot with her, but my brothers also happen to be the ones working to overthrow her, I cannot imagine she’ll be overly pleased should our paths cross again. And if she does show up, you’re going to need my help.”

“Rafferty is your brother?” Rainey asks.

“You met him? Arrogant bastard, that one.”

“Not personally, but Delaney has. He rescued her and Bronywyn back when Sheelin was working with Lucy.”

“Interesting. Sounds like Rafferty. Always playing the hero.”

“So, this Sheelin is your sister?”

At Deissy’s question, Fearghas nods. “For lack of a better word, yes. We’ve not been particularly close in the last millennia, though.”
