“Millennia? How old are you?”

“Honestly? Not entirely sure.”

“Are you kidding me? You’re so old you don’t know how old you are?”

“Let me put it into perspective for you,” Rainey offers. “His mom let his flower die once, and they didn’t talk for over seven hundred years. He was an adult by then.”

“Oh for the love of—must youalwaysbring up the bloody flower?”

“Until the day I die, big brother fae. Until the day I die.” The humor in the moment is appreciated, even by Fearghas, who is doing his best to appear annoyed.

“Do you really think she’ll show up?” Cole questions. “Lucy is dead.”

“Sheelin is bloodthirsty,” Ridley replies. “If she catches wind there’s turmoil here involving her brother, you can damn well bet your ass she’s going to show.”

“Wards are up,” Delaney announces as she and Bronywyn step into the room. I glance over at the latter, my heart rate increasing with each step that brings her closer to me. I’d honestly thought that once we were together, her effect on me would diminish.

Turns out I was spectacularly wrong. Even as exhausted as I am, I crave her. Breathe her. Need her.

She leans into me, and I wrap an arm around her, leaning down to press my lips to the top of her head. This high she gives me—it’s more than I ever could have imagined.

“What’s our game plan?” Rainey questions as she leans back against the couch. “I want to bring Walker here as soon as he’s stable.”

“We’ll get a room ready.”

“I can grab some medical equipment from the hospital.”

“You’re going to steal from a hospital?” Deissy gapes at Ridley.

“Borrow. Besides, given that here possession is nine-tenths of the law, it will be ours once I take it.”

“Doesn’t work that way,” Rainey replies. “Though I approve of anything that will keep my partner alive.”

“If we’re going to take on the councils, we’re going to need as much help as we can get.”

We all turn to Eira. Even given what we faced, she has more reason than any of us to hate the supernaturals who have deemed themselves our leaders. It doesn’t matter that most of her prior captors are already dead. The entire organization itself refused to step in and rescue her while she was being held and repeatedly raped by the mother fuckers.

The damage they did—there’s not a single one of us here who wouldn’t kill them for that alone.

“If you step into this and we lose—” Fearghas starts.

“I know that. But it’s well past time for this regime to fall, Fearghas, and I can help.”

Jaw tight, he nods then turns back to Rainey. “We’re going to need backup,” he echoes Eira’s words.

“Shouldn’t be that hard to find other supernaturals who have been burned by these assholes. I’ll give Brad a call in just a bit and let him know what’s going on.”

“I don’t want to just kill them.” Willa’s words are laced with the same rage we’re all feeling.

“What are you thinking?” Rainey asks.

“I want to make them pay. I want those fucking assholes to know what’s coming.”

“If they know what’s coming, doesn’t that put us at risk for a counter move?” Paloma asks.

“Possibly. But it won’t do them any good.” Delaney smiles, the carnal grin lacking all joy and humor. “They’d have to find us first.”
