THIRTY-SEVEN

‘VENDETTA’ UNSECRET

Lexi

If you really think about it, the human body, while rigorous and able to handle most strenuous activities, it’s still just a frail thing of molecules, bones, tendons, and blood, wrapped in pliable skin only a few layers thick. Easy to hurt, easy to kill.

As I look down at the knife Luce places in my hand, I feel a mounting emotion inside my chest. Drake’s words back at the club come back to me in a flash, and I realize just how right he is.

‘We mortals hold the power over life and death…that is a power you hold, and once you realize that, there’s not a soul in this world who can hurt you.’

There’s a powerful flow in my veins, the feeling of being untouchable to Alan makes my chest burn, and my core to throb. It’s sick, wrong, sinful in everyway…but so fucking good.

It should fill me with shame, it’s every which way but right, yet I have not an ounce of hesitance as I step toward Alan, ignoring his feeble attempts to budge from the binds and his threatening words that don’t touch me as they once did.

I step around him, grabbing a handful of his blood and sweat-soaked hair, yanking his head up to look at Gio and Luce

“This is for Maxine.” I say before bringing the dangerously sharp blade to the side of Alan’s head and slicing through his scalp.

“This is for Elena.” I slice down the side of his face, his screams saturating my soul in a dark way I know I’ll never be able to rid myself of.

“This is for Gio and Luce, my men.” I swing my arm down in an arch, stabbing him in the gut all the way to the hilt. My chest heaving and my mouth watering with the need to throw up, but the feeling of my demons leaving me with each wound I inflict is utterly addictive. For too many years, I spent my time trying to heal the wounds Alan left on my body and soul, only to have more to replace them…now it’s my turn, and though the demons of the past flee, new ones settle in place. These demons love the sound of Alan’s screams, they salivate for his blood to pour, and I’m all too happy to oblige.

“I’ll never be your little doll again,” I whisper into his ear, yanking the knife out of his stomach with carelessness before stepping in front of him, “I told you when I left you that I’d make sure your life was ruined while I rebuilt my own, and I kept my word. Now, I’ll make sure you never live to see the sun.”

I bring the blade to Alan’s neck, his breathing already slowing with the blood loss, but he still blows me a kiss, “I’ll see you in hell, wife.”

I smile at him, “Not before I break down your empire.”

His eyes flash, and my smile widens, “Yeah, didn’t you know, I’m soon to be your widow,” I lean in closer and whisper, “I get everything, and I’m going to burn it all to the ground.”

He opens his mouth on a scream that never comes because my hand pushes and slices across his neck, his blood spurting out onto my chest as his heart fights to stay afloat…but the human body can take only so much, and Alan…he’s the weakest of them all.
