CHAPTER FOURTEEN

‘PAPARAZZI’ KIM DRACULA

“There are reporters outside, Mero. Do you want to enter through the garage?" Hector asks as we pull up to my building. Dice is upstairs with Brian and possibly my mother. I know she is safe, but I want to have my eyes on her right now and these fucking leaches are blocking my path.

My teeth grind as I watch the group of reporters bother the doormen who do their best to ignore the questions thrown at them while blocking anyone from getting inside.

"No. They're going to continue to seek me out until they get something from me. Might as well be now."

I clap my driver, Joey, on the shoulder, "As soon as you pick up my sister, I want word. Straight here, no deviations. ¿Me entiendes?" Understand me?

He bows his head, "Understood, Mero."

Hector and I step out of the SUV and make our way to the building's entrance. As soon as the reporters see us, they swing their cameras and devices toward us. A few flashes momentarily blind my sight, but I continue forward with Hector, shoving people back.

Everyone is shouting their questions all at once and their voices blend together, creating nothing but white noise in my head.

As we reach the door, one question stands out, "Mr. Alonso! Is it true you are at war with the Reyes Familia?"

The doorman grips the handle of the door, but I hold my hand up, stopping him then turning back to the reporters.

They all quiet down, holding their recorders and phones up to catch my words.

"I'm not sure why the Reyes Familia is being brought up in this. After all, it takes a mighty coward to shoot in the dark," I look directly into the lens of the camera at the back of the group. I hope this motherfucker, Danny Reyes, is watching, "and I've always believed the Reyes Familia was led by someone much wiser than that."

Turning on my heel, I enter the building, leaving the shouts and flashes behind me.

In the elevator, I enter the code to my floor and address the situation, "I want Dice's mother brought here by the end of the night. She can have the extra room on the east side of the floor. Until we take care of this, they are on lockdown with ma and Letty."

"You know she'll fight you on it," Hector says stoically, like he knows the workings on a woman's mind.

Although, I must agree. Dice isn't one to let her life be controlled, but I'll be damned if she gets caught in the crosshairs. Danny Reyes stepped over the line and there will be blood to pay.

"She will, but she will have to deal with it even if I have to tie her to a chair." Or my bed, naked and wanting.

Hector nods his agreement, completely unaware of where my thoughts have gone, "I think she'll follow your lead if her mother is with her."

The elevator comes to stop on the top floor and opens to the living room of my penthouse. It’s one of two entrances to my penthouse. The emergency stairwell door is located inside the pantry, but it is very rarely used and like the elevator, it requires a code to open. My family and head of security, Raul, are the only men who have that code beside me.

Letty’s floor is just below mine while Brian and Hector have the level below her. Three entire floors belonging wholly to my Familia.

As soon as the elevator doors close behind us, my mother and Brian come greet me, but Dice is nowhere in sight.

My mother kisses my cheek, "Where's Letty?"

I look at my watch, Letty was going to be hosting her first showing at her art gallery and it ends in just a few minutes.

"Joey is on the way to pick her up. He'll call as soon as he has her."

My mother nods at my words as Brian speaks up, "Mero, Dice is in the bedroom speaking with Miss Garza. She seems to understand the situation and the circumstance but," Brian shrugs, "I don't think she's willing to stay here indefinitely."

I move around them, heading for the bedroom, but my mother stops me, "Hijo, you need to remember, she is not used to this life. She is independent and set in her ways. If she isn't willing to move with you and not against you, you need to let her go."

I try to keep my face blank, but just the thought of letting my girl go sets a boulder on my chest. Forcing all my air to leave me and keeping my lungs from breathing in. No, Dice stays with me. I meant what I said, I will tie her to my bed if that's what it takes.

Instead of replying to her, I turn to Hector, "How many men are at her mother's right now?"
