I smirk at that. We were three idiots. We didn't know where to take it or what to do with it, so we took it to my parents’ house. We were just practicing on the worthless car, but the adrenaline of stealing it had us higher than a kite. We felt like the biggest, baddest motherfuckers alive.

I lean against the island and rub my temples, exhaustion making it hard to think.

On rare occasions, I wish we could go back to the old days. Today is one of those days, but it's ironic. Now I have the one thing I never want to lose. Dice. Going back would mean losing her, and that is not an option.

All I can do now is protect her and make our future together. Starting with the death of Danny Reyes.

I take a deep breath and stand straight, glancing at my wristwatch, "What’s the status on the motherfuckers who touched our family?"

The guard I spoke to on the phone said Dice left the would-be-captor unconscious in the stairwell with a bullet wound to the arm and stomach. I want to make sure I still have the chance to interrogate him myself later.

"They’re sitting tidy in the basement strapped to chairs. Doc knocked the driver out with a drug mixture injection, and he put the other vato on fluids to keep him alive for you. Also, Hector went and personally picked up Dice's mother. They'll be here in the next hour."

I nod at that, but I focus my mind on today's events, "I want every man who was supposed to be here guarding to meet me in the basement in two hours. Have new men standing in their places during the meeting."

Brian nods his head, anger flaring in his eyes.

This disturbance in the underground parking garage doesn’t sit well with me. I understand that with Joey getting killed and Letty being chased, everyone was on high alert, but I will not allow my guards to feel content with the limited access to the penthouse. Yes, you need a code to get in, but codes can be hacked, and mistakes can be made, like the one my mother made today.

"I need to make some business calls."

Brian steps back as I pass him, but I turn back, "Don't worry, Carnal." Brother. "We will make sure these motherfuckers pay for the damage they've caused."

"They know who she is, Leo."

He doesn't need to elaborate; I know exactly what he's talking about. Danny wants to eliminate the Cabello line. Dice's father and uncles weren't enough to quell his paranoid infused bloodlust.

"Is she worth it?" If the question were from anyone else, I would have slit his throat, but Brian is my brother and only wants what's best for his family. He's looking out.

Even so, I feel my face harden, "She's worth far more than our empire, B. I will protect her until my dying breath. Soon, Reyes will pay for his transgressions. Are you with me?"

"Mero, Mero. Always, Carnal." Then he gives an easy smile with a shrug, “I always knew you would fall for a black widow. She's going to eat you alive.”

I turn toward the hall while chuckling, “Fuck off, Brian. Your concept of women is probably one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.”

“Yeah, well that’s because you’re pussy whipped like a submissive.”

I bark out laughter as I enter the office. This is why Brian and I work so well together; he keeps Hector and I from being too serious. Life is already dark, and Brian has always been the one to keep things light. It’s ironic since he’s one of the deadliest men in my crew.

He’s the kind of guy who will tell some fucked-up joke while torturing someone.

“Submissive? That’s hilarious. You talk a big game but when you’re brought to your knees, I will be sure to remind you of this conversation.”

We grow quiet as I pull up my feed of the basement. Three camera angles show the room in which my two prisoners await their execution. One is unconscious while the driver who killed Joey and chased my sister, sits completely naked in his chair. Even through the feed I can see his body quaking.

Off screen, my guards stand at their posts, waiting for my commands. I see one of my men filling up a bucket of water before dumping the entire bucket over the shaking bastard. His cries come through the speakers loud and clear.

Turning to Brian, I ask, “What’s the temperature down there?”

“Sixty degrees. Not very cold but he also has industrial fans facing him for ten minutes after the water is poured on him.”

I nod my head and watch the mild torture on my screen. It may not seem like such a big deal, but the human body can only deal with so much cold before the heart gives out. The fans will bring his body to freezing temperatures before turning off. He will warm once again before the process is started again.

An incoming call pops up on my screen. The Vegas King. I turn to Brian and jut my chin to the door before answering. I’m not sure what the man wants, our dealings are done for the month and we won’t need another meeting until next month. Whatever it is, I don’t want anyone to hear but Brian and me.

“Don Ibarra. What can I do for you?”

“Compa!”Godfather.“My Chicago friends have told me you are having issues down there.”
