CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

‘SNITCH’ REYN HARTLEY

Do you ever feel like you are on a time limit? Every moment you are alive, every second is marked down on a tally book somewhere, as if fate is weighing your scores? That is how I've felt ever since learning who Dice's father is. It feels as if each moment with her is going to be my last, and if I don't make each moment count, I'll go to my grave regretting it.

I've heard that the universe has a fucked-up sense of humor or a sick code of balance. With every good thing, bad comes along. Maybe the saying is right, maybe having Dice means having a shit load of bad luck.

Well, fuck you very much, fate. I'll take the shitstorm all day if it means I have Dice for the rest of my life.

Need my money?Fine.

Want my power?Take it.

Give up my soul?Gladly.

I'll give up anything for her, but if I have to see one more fucking tear fall from her eyes because of this cock sucking, ballsack, Danny Reyes? I'm going to rip his throat out, then piss on his burning carcass.

Fuck it, I'll do it anyway.

"Listen up, Miguel. If you want to save your daughter's life, you need to tell me everything."

My cold voice bounces off the cement floors and walls as Miguel sits, tied to the metal chair Greg recently sat in until we ended his life.

He nods his head but doesn't speak... that might be because of the ball gag in his mouth. One of the many tools I have in this room.

I nod to Hector who steps forward and unbuckles the latch holding the gag in Miguel's mouth. His jaw pops loudly as he swivels it around. I remember hiring him when he came with a recommendation from Hector.

Looking at my best friend, I see nothing but hatred in his features. I wasn't the only one betrayed by Miguel. Hector takes this personally and has asked me for permission to be the one to end the rat's life.

"Who contacted you?"

Miguel looks up at me, and I see resignation in his eyes. He's not an ignorant man, and he knows his betrayal will cost him his life. But he also knows his daughter's life is in his hands, and his compliance will determine her future.

"Last night on my way home, Rico called me. I could hear my Isa crying in the background." Miguel drops his chin to his chest and continues speaking, "He said he has a buyer for her and if I didn't get Dice to him by the end of tonight, he’d sell my daughter."

His voice cracks and he goes silent. I feel unfiltered fury at the sick motherfucker that has Miguel's daughter.

A fucking buyer?

I look at my right-hand men and see the disgust on their faces as well. Sex trafficking is something we despise with a fucking passion, but for Brian, it's an even more painful subject.

His mother survived the horrors, and he was the product of her time there. He doesn't know his biological dad, and that's for the best.

His mother loved him despite how he was conceived, and she devoted her life to him. Eventually, she found a good man who became his father. But growing up in his home was hard since his mother suffered horrible PTSD, and often saw her abuser in Brian's face.

"Fucking hell, Mero!" Miguel looks up at me with remorse and sorrow, "I didn't want to betray you. I hate what I've done, and I will gladly take your punishment, even if it's torture, but you must know that had it not been for my daughter's life on the line, I never would have done this. My loyalty will always be with you. Simpre, Compa."Always, Godfather.

The need for Miguel's blood has left my body. Oh, I will punish him for putting a gun to my woman's head and threatening her life, but I won't kill him. For the sake of his innocent daughter, I won't end his life.

"I believe you, Miguel, but you will be made an example of," Miguel nods his head, accepting his fate, "First, we'll get your daughter back."

I turn from the man and look to Hector, "Rico is the piece of shit that’s been stalking Dice, no?"

"Si. He is Danny's nephew and right hand. He replaced Julian not long after he put the bomb on the car that killed the Cabello's. What do you have in mind?"

I hate the idea of doing this to Dice, but we need to make this as believable as possible if we want this to work.

I walk over to Miguel's confiscated phone, "We're going to stage photos of Dice tied and unconscious in a trunk. We'll send them to Rico from Miguel's phone and set up a meet in neutral territory. As soon as we have the address, we'll get our snipers set. Once Miguel has his daughter in hand, we do a bag and grab on Rico. I want him alive, but if he dies, then so be it."
