“When was your last period?”

That… was not what I expected her to ask.

“What?” Is she high? Sick? Sleep depraved? Why is she randomly asking me about my cycle?

“Just answer, Dice.” Letty tosses her hands up like I’m being ridiculous with my confusion.

“Uh, I don’t know. I have to think about it. My period is pretty irregular. What’s with you? Why are you asking me this?” I grab the broom and start sweeping the marshmallows into a dustpan. Thankfully, I didn’t dump the entire bag.

“I think you’re pregnant.”

The dustpan falls from my hand and the white little pillows go flying again.

“You think what?!” I stand there and wait for her to shout April Fools! but she just smiles and nods her head.

“You basically just described pregnancy symptoms and I think Leo believes it too because he had a shit ton of tests delivered.”

“Leo thinks I’m pregnant?!” Okay, I’m starting to panic. I hold up my hand, stopping whatever Letty was about to say, and start doing the math.

“I think my last period was mid-November. My last day of the cycle was the day I started working at Nectar’s. I’ve been here for two weeks, so it’s been…” I count the weeks in my head,

“Six weeks.” Letty and I both say.

She’s got a big smile on her face while I’m pretty sure I’m as white as a sheet.

How in the hell did I not realize this? I know that the past two weeks have gone by so smoothly that time seems to slip away when I blink, but how could I not notice that I’ve gone six freakin’ weeks without a period?

No, we haven’t used protection, but I’ve been taking birth control pills, albeit, not at the exact same time everyday… but still, they should do their damn job, right?

Still, I’m in denial. The symptoms are all just a coincidence. They have to be. Stress causes all types of crazy things in the human body, and I have been nothing but a ball of stress.

And emotions, dizziness, morning sickness, food aversions, super tired.

“Omigod, you’re really going to act like you’re not pregnant, aren’t you?” Letty says with an astonished laugh.

“I mean, these symptoms could be anything! Like a…uh, a thyroid disorder…” I squint my eyes as that slips past my lips, I have no clue what I’m talking about, but I’m just not ready to say I’m growing a human in my stomach.

“You just made that up.” Letty rolls her eyes.

“It’s a real disorder, Lett. Google that shit. Besides, I’m on birth control pills.”

“Bitch, I’ve seen you taking those things at random hours. I bet you even forgot to take them on a couple of occasions. Plus, you and Leo are like two,” She curls her lip, “horny ass bunnies who can’t keep their mitts off each other. It’s gross.”

“You’re gross.” Yep, that was my brilliant comeback because she’s right, I have missed a couple of days, but I didn’t really think about it. Besides, it’s not like I knew Leo was so damn potent.

I can just picture the little tadpoles beating the shit out of each other to get to my eggs.

“Fuck. I think I’m pregnant,” I whisper to myself.

“Ya think?” Letty chuckles and wraps her arms around me, “Listen, I know it’s scary but you’re not alone in this. Leo looked like he was on cloud nine when he realized you were pregnant. My mom and your mom—”

“They know?!” I whisper-shout.

“No, not yet but they will be ecstatic. I know my mom will be.”

I breathe out a sigh, “Okay, just give me a minute to think.”

Letty kisses my cheek and playfully slaps me on the ass before joining our mothers. She’s nuts, but I love her energy.
