"What's happening?"

Leo doesn't answer me, he's gone into full protective mode, squeezing my mother and me to his chest. Two guards run over to us, guns out and eyes scanning the area. I can't see anyone anywhere, but I still reach under my coat and pull my gun. Flipping the safety off, I pull the slide back. I swore I’d never be caught slipping again, and I meant it.

"Stay close, let's move to the car as fast as we can," Leo orders the men who nod and huddle around us.

We begin a fast pace through the path, the SUV sits a little over fifty yards away, but I spot a lone figure jump from one tree to another. It's not one of our men. I know this because our men wouldn't be aiming a gun at Leo's back.

"Get down!" I scream as I lift my gun and pull the trigger.

The blast rings out and echoes around the cemetery, but I don't stop. I pull the trigger three more times until I finally hit the bastard in the leg, making him fall before trying to scurry away.

Seeing one threat down, Leo tucks me and my mother into the circle once more before speaking rapid Spanish to the guards.

"¡Sube las al auto, ahora!"Get them into the car, now!

He spins on his heel, the tails of his coat swinging out behind him as he pulls twin nickel-plated Desert Eagles from his chest holsters. "Dice, stay with your ma and keep the car running." Though he's not looking at me, I nod anyway, shutting and locking the doors.

Through the windows, I can see Leo giving orders to the two guards who repeat them into their earpieces as they all run toward the asshole in the woods. I quickly look out all the windows to see that the men are quick to follow whatever directions Leo gave. Scouting through the parameter and searching for more enemies.

"Fucking hell." My mother's voice reminds me that I'm not alone. In my spike of adrenaline, I didn't think to check her over for injuries.

"What is, mom? Are you okay?"

My mother shakes her head, "I'm fine. This is exactly why I kept you a secret. Thispincheasshole is predictably unpredictable." She huffs and pulls her coat off before digging in her purse. I turn to search out Leo as she continues, "He wanted to end the competition, or what he perceived as competition, and killed your father. The love of my life."

I can tell she's just venting so I don't interrupt her.

"Now he wants to take my baby. Fuck that and fuck him."

I glance back at my mom, it's rare to hear her cuss. Only when she's about to explode does she cuss as bad as me. I see a clip in her hand as she slides it into her own gun. I'm in shock. I didn't think she even carried, but I'm sure she does now because of the shit that has happened.

"Ma, cálmate."Calm down. "And put the gun away. We're in an armored vehicle, we're safe in here."

“And then what, Dicennica? Hmm? What are we going to do after that?”

When I look at her without answer she shakes her head, “Think about it. How did the shooter know we’d be here? Who knew we were coming here? Leo either has a rat in the ranks or… hell, I don’t know. What I am one hundred percent sure about is that Danny Reyes needs to die.”

Fucking hell, I know she’s right, but I hope like hell she’s not. Leo would go on a purge of his whole organization if he were to be betrayed once more.

But no, this can’t be an inside job.

“Ma, what is the significance today? At the penthouse, you said, today is his, but you didn’t finish. What’s today?”

“His death anniversary. Today is the day your father died.”

Shots begin to ring out from different directions, loud and scattered making me duck out of instinct. Some ricochet off the SUV harmlessly but my mind is on the date.

"It has to be Danny out there. There's no moles in the Alonso Familia." I quickly look around, trying to spot the fucker who killed my father. It has to be him. He's such a whacked-out motherfucker, he probably came here to pay some respects to someone he once called friend.

On the other side of the visitor's office, where the cemetery Sexton lives, is a running car. I can see the exhaust steam billowing slightly. Pulling my gun from my waistband, I pop the clip and see how many bullets I have left. Ten, that's good enough. If I'm right, then Danny is trying to get away, leaving his little minions to handle his dirty business.

Scanning the rest of the area as I push the clip back in, I see Leo and his men still surrounding the shooter. The fucker will hold out on spilling any secrets, Leo won't know Danny is here until it's too late and I can't take the chance that Danny will escape once more.

"Ma, climb up here and get in the passenger seat. I'm going to move the car up a little." I don't want to tell her what I'm going to do if Danny is behind that building, but I need to hurry because it's getting harder to see without the sun.

As soon as her ass hits the seat, I gun the motor. The way I see it, if I'm wrong about this, all I'm going to do is scare someone. If I'm right though, I'm going to do what I can to stop the sly little fucker from slipping through our fingers.

Leo and his men must hear the car, because all of them turn in my direction, some even running toward me, as I whip the wheel left and spot three men in the car, one has a gun to the driver's head and one in the back seat.
