I pull the e-brake up and let the back wheels lock up, causing the car to slide sideways until it hits the front bumper and stops. Damn, the movies make it look simple to maneuver a car with the handbrake.It’s not.
With both vehicles facing each other, I turn the headlights on high and swing open my door, aiming my gun between the frame and window.
I've never killed anyone. I've shot two people in my life and both times were for survival. In complete self defense. If I shoot this man, as bad of a person as he is, I am killing someone who technically hasn't hurt me. His blood and death will be on my conscience, but I haven’t come this far for nothing.
I didn't just pull a Fast and Furious car stunt and aim my gun like the fucking Terminator just to back out now.
The guy in the back seat, who I assume is bitch-ass Danny, ducks down to the floor but the guy in the passenger seat begins to turn his gun on me. I pull the trigger before he can get a bead on me. My shot goes through the windshield of the little car and right through his skull, above his ear. As soon as the driver realizes the man is dead, he jumps from the car with his hands up.
"I Sexton! Please! I no bad man!" The graveyard caretaker screams as he shuffles away from the car.
I ignore him as I step out of the SUV, keeping my gun raised. From the corner of my eye, I see Leo and his men about thirty yards away, but the man in the back seat jumps from the car with a psychotic scream. He shoots wildly in Leo's direction before ducking behind his car, I don't get a chance to even glance in my man's direction though. Bullets begin to ricochet off the ground, like the fucker is shooting under the car he’s hiding behind.
I jump into the SUV and watch as my mother leans out her window and shoots rapidly until the slide stays back. A full clip. My mother just emptied a full clip on someone.
She drops into the seat and crumbles into herself. I wrap my arms around her and watch as Leo runs to us while his guys search the car.
"Shh, ma. It's okay. He was trying to kill us. He was going to hurt our family, you did right."
Leo watches her with sorrow but when he looks into my eyes, I see nothing but barely contained fury.
Fuck. I'm so going to be punished for this.
