Jamie swallowed visibly. “I can’t feel my right leg below my knee.”

“What!”

He held up a hand. “I’ll be okay. I’m sure I’ll heal naturally, but if you can make it happen faster, I’d appreciate the help.”

“Your right leg?” Alice asked, walking around me to crouch beside him.

“Yeah.” He nodded.

“You’ll want to lay flat,” she said.

Jamie nodded, and I helped him lay back without moving his knee very much. He kept a hold of my hand and brought it to his lips. “I’m sorry I scared you.”

“I’m just glad you’re alive,” I said.

“Me too.” He chuckled, but the sound of his joy dissolved in a long hiss as Alice began working her magic on his knee. The muscles in his neck strained, but even as he struggled, he didn’t squeeze my hand, he simply kept it pressed to his heart. His jaw strained, and air came out his nose in short bursts.

“You’re okay,” I said. “Just hang on.”

“Almost done, it’s just a little…further….there,” Alice gasped, and Jamie’s body relaxed. “Can you move your foot? Can you feel me touching your leg?”

“Yeah,” he said. “Yeah, I can. Thank you.”

“Good, now, you two need to get out of here before the coven comes looking for your bodies.”

I stood up and offered Jamie my hand to get him on his feet. Once he was up, I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my nose in his chest. “Don’t ever do that to me again.”

“I’m sorry. I had to make sure you got out. I had to know you were safe,” he said, pressing his lips to my temple, as he cupped the back of my head with his hand, cradling me against his shoulder.

“Again, this is really sweet and all, but you have to go. We all do,” Alice hissed.

“Can you get us back to Cape Luna?” I asked, turning in the circle of Jamie’s arms.

Alice shook her head. “No. Teleporting is a lot of magic, too easy to pick up on and trace back to the witch who cast it. The best I can do is give you a veil to run under as wolves, so you don’t run into hunters or humans between here and there.”

“It might actually be better if they find our clothes in the car,” Jamie said. “Might make whoever it is think twice about whether or not we’re alive.”

“At the very least, they’ll know we’re in wolf form somewhere, running for our lives.” I nodded.

“Alright, let’s go.” He said, shrugging out of his jacket. I did the same and frowned down at the leather in my hands. “This sucks. This is my favorite jacket.”

“Mine too,” he said, tossing his shirt down on the ground. “It looks good on you.”

“Who are you kidding, you like everything I wear,” I snorted.

“Very true.”

“You two are sickeningly cute.” Alice grumbled, with her back turned to us as we stripped.

“Also true,” Jamie said, smiling at me as he dropped his pants and boxers to the ground.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “You ready for the run?”

“Always.”

Alice threw up her hands. “Any day now.”

I flipped her off and undid my bra dropping the last of my clothes into the pile. I closed my eyes fighting the urge to ogle him standing naked in front of me. Alice was right, we had to change, and get back to Cape Luna. We had to find the talisman and end this.
