“You have jokes tonight.” I laugh as he pulls me into his lips, kissing me.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes, let me grab my purse.”
We head out to the club, and soon, everything is in full swing. This year, I’m able to relax and have a good time. Amer doesn’t go far from me, and every time I look over at him, our eyes meet, and the butterflies flutter in my stomach. No matter how many times I look at him, he makes me feel like a teenager again.
I’m lost in thought when I feel a tap on my shoulder, and I turn around to see who’s behind me. Shock and surprise take over my body.
“I’m so sorry, Mara-Lee,” Mallik says as he pulls me into his arms for a hug. “I’m sorry for everything. Please forgive me.”
My gut clinches. I’ve missed Mallik so much. Tears run down my cheeks as he holds me in his arms. I don’t know what to say. There’s so much to talk about. All I can do is nod because if I open my mouth, I’m going to sob.
I can’t believe I’m standing here with my brother, and I feel Amer come to us.
“Stellina, are you okay?” he asks as I stand back from my brother. He planned this. I know he did.
“I don’t know if I want to be mad at you or be thankful,” I tell him.
“Give it a few days and then you can decide.” He smiles.
“We will catch up, Mallik,” I tell him. “But right now, I’m going to dance with Amer.”
I offer him my hand, and he leads us to the dance floor, and we dance the night away. When the ball drops at midnight, Amer kisses me, and I deepen the kiss as I pull him into me.
We all sing “Auld Lang Syne” and the party continues on.
“Take me to bed,” I tell Amer.
“You don’t have to tell me twice.”
We say goodbye to everyone and make our way to the hotel. As I step out of my dress, I have to check it out. Amer was right. It looks good on the floor too. He lays me on the bed and kisses every inch of my body.
“Stellina, Happy New Year. This is our first of many, and I can’t wait to experience them all with you.”
I wrap my arms around his neck, I kiss him, I kiss him knowing that he’s mine forever and I can’t wait to spend forever with him.
