Chapter Six

Grayson

I’ve been trying to work all day but I can’t seem to push Charlee from my thoughts long enough to get anything done. Every time I pick up a pencil and start to design, I wonder what she’s doing, where she’s at, and if she’s safe. I’ve never had this type of reaction to someone before but I’m one of those people who trusts my gut and my gut is telling me that Charlee is meant for me.

I can’t seem to get her out of my head, even when I’m asleep. She’s been starring in every one of my dreams since the night I met her. I’ve been waking up every morning with a hard on and nothing seems to be able to get it to go down. For the first time since I was a teen, my sex drive is back and raging.

I just wish that I could find Charlee already. I’ve been focused on my career for as long as I can remember, always more interested in securing my future than girls, but now that I’ve finally found my baby, I’m anxious to get our lives together started. I want to spend time together and really get to know her. I want to take care of her and make sure that she’s safe, that she’s happy. I finally know why I was so driven to be successful. It was so I would be able to take care of my baby girl when I found her.

I finally give up on work around 7 pm, throwing my pencil down and standing from my desk. I grab my phone and keys before I head down to my car, sliding behind the wheel. I pick up some fast food before I steer my car towards another new neighborhood that’s being built nearby. I drive with one hand while I eat my burger and fries and keep an eye out for my brown-haired girl. This is the third night that I’ve been driving around looking for her. I’ve been asking around for new homes being built and keeping a list so I can go drive by them at night. So far, no luck but I have a good feeling about tonight.

I’ve been checking my credit card statements online, trying to see if she used them anywhere but they’ve been clear. I was kind of hoping that she would, maybe I could get an idea of where she is, or at least what section of the city she has been in.

I finish my food right as I steer into my first construction site. I shut the car off and step out, looking around for any sign of Charlee. It’s quiet as I make my way up to the front door and make my way inside the home. It’s quiet and still inside and I already know that Charlee isn’t here but I still do a quick run through and look for her.

Coming up empty, I head back to my car, crossing this house off the list and heading to the next. I go to six different houses, coming up empty at each one and I sigh, running my hand through my hair in frustration before I call it a night and head back home. My headlights flash across the front of my house and I slam on the brakes.

There, sitting on my front steps is Charlee. My heart leaps and flips over in my chest and I couldn’t hold my smile back even if I wanted to. I whip into my driveway, jumping from the car. I could get used to coming home to this. She looks just like I remember and my eyes greedily take her in. She’s dressed in a pair of black jeans with a black t-shirt on. It looks like a men’s shirt and I’m instantly jealous. I want to demand that she take it off and wear one of mine instead but I already know that she wouldn’t listen to me. Her brown hair is tied back into a low ponytail and black ankle high boots complete her outfit.

She stands when she sees me and gives me a sheepish smile, holding up my wallet in one of her hands. I’m giddy at the sight of her and I want to laugh but I’m afraid to make any wrong moves and scare her off again. The knowledge that she came looking for me makes me feel warm all over. I grin as I make my way up the sidewalk towards her. I take my wallet from her, sliding it into my back pocket as we stand facing each other.

“You’re not going to check and make sure everything is there?”

“And take my eyes off of you? Nice try, but I’m not letting you out of my sight again, Charlee.” She gives me a look, rolling her eyes as she takes a step closer. “Besides, it doesn’t matter if you took something from my wallet. If I have my way, it’s all going to be yours soon anyways.”

Her eyes widen at that and she steps back. I smile wider as I close the distance and wrap my arms around her waist so she can’t get away again. I lean down closer to her so that I can whisper in her ear.

“I’m going to give you everything, baby.”
