EPILOGUE

THREE MONTHS LATER

ISABEL

The little paper in my hand, it holds a picture of the future, of my future. I haven’t seen Ruslan for a few days, he’s been busy with work, and I’ve been busy helping Irina with the finishing touches for her wedding.

Wedding.

I knew it would be coming, I just didn’t know that it would be this soon. Though it’s not as big as our wedding, it’s still a wedding and there are still a million things to do. So, I’ve been a bit busy, but this isn’t about a wedding, this little paper, this is about us.

Lifting my hand, I knock on the office door. Artur brought me here and talked to the men guarding the door. It’s all a big secret and maybe they’ll all get in trouble, but I promised them I would do my best to keep them out of it as best as I could.

Ruslan doesn’t instruct me to come inside, but I can’t wait forever. I have something to fucking show him. Opening the door, I step inside, and I gasp at the sight in front of me. There is a woman standing in my husband’s arms.

They both stop and turn to me, but his arms are around another woman. She’s gorgeous too. Tall and thin, long dark hair. She smiles, then shifts forward and touches her lips to Ruslan’s cheek.

I watch as she shifts away from him, then walks past me. She doesn’t say anything, but she does give me a smile and a wink before she slips out of the room. I don’t move. Staring at my husband who was just wrapped up in another woman’s arms. He tilts his head to the side, his eyes finding mine, his lips curved up into a smile.

“Jealous?” he asks.

“Should I be?”

His lips are curved up, but he doesn’t say one way or the other, instead he just gives me a shrug of his shoulder, then he takes a step toward me, and another until he’s right in front of me. He’s just inches from me as he tips his head down and looks into my eyes.

“Never, luchik. That was Rostam’s daughter. She has decided to quit working for me and will be moving away to start a new life.”

“Will he be angry?” I ask.

Ruslan shakes his head. “No, because when he left her with me, I made it very clear that the women would be free to do as they wished, whether it was work for me, or whatever. They would earn a paycheck and they could do what they wanted with that. She chose to save it and start her life over.”

Nodding my head, I look down and realize that I have the paper in my hand. I almost forgot about it with all of the commotion. Lifting it, I place the paper against his chest since he’s so close to me. He reaches out, wrapping his fingers around my wrist and looks down at my grasp.

“What’s this?” he asks.

“It’s something for you, well for us,” I say.

Tipping my head backward, I look up in his eyes and hold my breath as he takes the paper from my grasp. Taking a step backward, I focus my gaze on his. He holds the slip of paper out, his eyes searching it, until he sees it. When he does, I watch as his lips part and his eyes widen.

“Are you for real?” he asks.

“It’s real.” I whisper.

“This isn’t a joke?”

Shaking my head slowly, I continue to watch him. “This isn’t a joke.”

“How did they not know at six weeks?” he asks. “How did they fucking not know?”

Sliding my tongue along my bottom lip, I can’t help but smile. “I don’t know, but I don’t think that it matters, does it?”

He shakes his head. “I just need a minute. This needs to sink in. This can’t be real. I… it just cannot be real, can it?”

“We’re having twins, Ruslan. Twin boys.”

“Fuck,” he sighs. “Fucking fuck.”

Then his lips curve up into a smile, his arms reach out and he wraps them around me, pulling me against his body, smashing me against him before he dips his chin and his mouth touches mine. He kisses me. It’s long, hard, and it’s deep.
