It’s perfect, just like him.

And the world stops for a moment. The entire world just pauses, because I am having twins. Two babies at once. And it hits me, it slams into me.

Twins.

Two.

“Holy shit,” I breathe. “Were having twins.”

“We sure are, luchik. It’s going to be wild, isn’t it?”

“Insane.”

RUSLAN

I watchmy wife as she makes her way down the aisle. I’m standing next to Panas, though he is looking forward to watching Irina make her way toward him, I only have eyes for one woman and that is Isa. She is walking slowly, dressed all in an army-green dress that flows perfectly over her stomach.

It’s been a few weeks since we found out we were having twins and it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Twins. Two. Boys at that. I can’t deny that my chest is full and proud at the thought of making not one, but two boys to carry the Zaitsev name.

The ceremony isn’t too long, thankfully. I watch as Isabel shifts from side to side, her feet no doubt hurting her in her heels. Since becoming pregnant, I have noticed she’s traded her highest heels for flats or very low heels, so these are no doubt bothering her.

I watch Isabel watching the ceremony. I could give two fucks about this, but she has worked so hard to make this day happen for her sister. She is so excited for this, and in turn, I am as well. For her sake.

When the priest announces them married, I watch as Panas finally kisses his bride. It’s been a long time coming for them and it’s good to see things coming full circle this way. We’re allowed to leave the church and I take Isabel’s hand and walk her down the aisle as the people on either side of us clap their hands.

Stepping outside into the sunshine, I bend down and pick up Isabel. She squeals, wrapping her arms around me as I walk her toward my car. Since it’s a small wedding and a smaller wedding party, we’re all going to the reception in our own cars.

After setting Isabel in the passenger seat, I jog over to the driver’s seat and fold into the car myself, pushing the button to start the engine immediately. She looks over at me, her eyes wide and her lips curved up into a small smile.

“Why did you carry me?” she asks, her voice breathless from squealing and laughing.

Shifting my attention to her, I give her a wink. “Your feet were hurting in those heels,” I say, shrugging my shoulder.

“How?”

“You were shifting back and forth, plus you haven’t worn heels since finding out you were pregnant,” I inform her.

She looks up at me, her eyes wide as she blinks a few times. “You really pay attention,” she mutters.

Lifting my hand, I cup her cheek. “When it comes to you? When it comes to our babies? Always, luchik.”

Moving forward, I touch my mouth to hers before I shift the car into drive and head toward the reception. It isn’t too far from the church, a rooftop wedding venue that is encased in glass. It’s actually pretty spectacular, I went with Panas, Irina, and Isabel to check it out originally.

I think I’m more excited for this wedding than my own, I’ll have time to talk to and socialize with my friends from Southern California. Once we pull up to the venue, I look over to see Isabel slip on a pair of flat sandals and I smile.

Together, we exit the car and make our way up to the reception. When I see them, the group of men that I haven’t been around in months, I make a beeline for them. Isabel slips away to do whatever she needs to do with her sister.

“Ruslan,” Kazimir calls out.

We embrace, as do me and Danill, Arseny, Eriks, Grisha, and a few other men. We start to talk, then drink and talk. Osip joins us along with Edmon and Adas. Then somewhere along the way Rostam joins us.

He shouldn’t.

I don’t even know why he’s here. Things have been civil since he accused me of killing his first wife, but he has not stopped trying to find her killer. It’s been long enough now that I don’t think he’ll ever find out that it was Vadim, but I also don’t want him hanging around all of the time, it just makes it more of an issue and liability.

“We need to talk,” Rostam states.

“Not here, this is social, this is not business,” Osip announces.
