‘Hey. Holly, don’t get upset. Do you want me to come over? Just friends?’ Ethan’s voice was soft.
‘No, no, that’s fine. I’m getting an early night.’
‘Take care, babe. If you need any extra help on the designs, let me know.’
Holly could hear the disappointment in his voice. She coughed to clear her throat, not wanting to cry again. ‘I’ll pay you for your time.’
‘No way. Anyhow – you take care and maybe we’ll pick up where we left off sometime?’
‘Thanks, Ethan.’ Holly ended the call and stood up. ‘I feel so awful,’ she said to Jaz.
‘Don’t worry, hun. You’re doing the right thing. No point leading him on.’
‘I don’t know what’s happened to me. I feel like I’m going crazy. I don’t want to be this person anymore.’
‘Don’t be harsh on yourself.’
‘From now on, the old Holly is back. I’m determined to make this work. To rebuild the nursery and start the hub. I’ll fight Tom with my last breath to protect my land.’ Looking out of the window over the scene with the farmhouse in the distance she wished things with Mitch could have been different.
