Holly could see Val staring at her, but she kept her voice steady, even if she could feel her skin turn pink. ‘I’ve had a quick call from him, saying that Sidney’s not strong enough to travel.’ Holly brushed the hair out of her eyes. ‘Which is why I want us to smooth out any issues on the nursery side before he gets back.’
‘He’s coming back, then?’ Val said, her eyebrows lifted.
‘Of course he is. He’s just been detained due to Sidney’s ill health.’ Holly noticed the way her stomach flipped. She realised she would be extremely disappointed if Mitch failed to return.
Val snorted. ‘Sidney’s probably sick ‘cos his nephew’s going into business with a Loveland.’
Holly decided to quiz Val on the full details of the family feud. There was clearly more to it than an ancient land dispute. She would quiz her in the car. Val, usually tight-lipped, seemed to be in the mood for talking.
Holly clapped her hands. ‘Let’s get to work.’
Later,when Holly drove Val home, she wasn’t able to ask her about the Loveland-Booth feud, because Val dosed off in the van. It would have to wait.
