THREE

I pulledup to Del’s house in the middle of the night. I didn’t know which of the townhomes belonged to Zed, so there wasn’t another option, really.

My fist rapped on the door, and I wiped at my eyes again. They’d been watering almost nonstop since I decided to go back to Moon Ridge, and I couldn’t do a damn thing to stop it.

Rocco answered the door a minute later, and stared at me for a minute.

“Who is it?” Del yelled from the other room.

“June,” Rocco called back.

I heard shuffling, and Rocco stepped away from the door. When he and Del made it into the doorway, her arm was over his shoulder and his was around her waist. He was clearly holding pretty much all of her weight—and considering the size of her belly, it looked like a lot.

“Shit,” I mumbled, blinking at her stomach.

“I told you I was huge,” she said with a grin, before throwing her arms around me. Her belly made the hug a bit weird, but it didn’t seem to faze her. “I’m glad you came home.”

Home?

Is that what Moon Ridge was supposed to be to me?

“Where’s his house?” I asked, wiping at my eyes again when Del let go of me.

“On the very end.” She gestured to the end of the row of townhomes, to the house nearly nestled in the trees. “Rocco, can you grab her the key?” she checked, looking at her mate.

He nodded, stepping away from her for just a moment.

She grabbed the door to retain her balance, grimacing at me. “I’m not moving very steadily right now.”

I laughed, wiping away a few more tears. “I can’t imagine why.”

She grinned as Rocco handed me a key. It looked normal—silver, shiny, and plain.

Yet it may as well have been the key to my own damned grave.

“Want me to walk you there?” Del checked.

I scoffed. “I’ve still got feet.”

“Yeah, yeah.” She waved it off. “I’ll still walk you.”

“By that, she means we’ll walk you,” Rocco corrected, shooting me a humorous grin. “Unless you want to try to catch the world’s sexiest pregnant woman the next time she falls.”

I couldn’t help it; a laugh escaped me. “Glad you have the ‘world’s sexiest pregnant woman’ award under your belt so I don’t have to try for it, Delly,” I teased her.

Del grinned. “I’m sure you’ll get a similar award of your own eventually.”

I rolled my eyes, but was still grinning. “Right.”

It was the middle of the night, and they were clearly exhausted, but they didn’t so much as mention that as they stepped outside together.

“We do pack dinners every night, and you’re welcome to come any time, but no one will hate you if you don’t,” Del offered, as we walked. “We rotate houses, but to be honest, the food hasn’t been nearly as good since Zed’s been hunting you. He’s the only one of us who can really cook. I’m pretty sure there are like a thousand freezer meals in his house that will taste a lot better, so if I were you, I’d hide out there for the next couple of years until you run out of free food.”

I couldn’t help but snort at that. “You know I’m picky.”

“Dude, Zed was the head-chef in a five-star restaurant. I’m pretty sure he was in charge of creating the menu. Not even you will be too picky for his food.”

“He’s young, isn’t he?” I frowned. “How is he already head chef?” I paused. “Or was, I guess.”
