Spinning, I saw Carter was the closest. “And you already know Carter,” I said.

Maggie gave him a frown. “Ah yes, I remember Carter. The man who broke my girl’s heart.”

“Apparently, that’s a misunderstanding,” I said before she said much else. I didn’t really want Carter knowing the depths of the despair I went through, not only from my parents dying but also from his betrayal.

Maggie said nothing, but she rose her eyes in a knowing way.

Carter blew out a breath and walked away to talk to Kane.

I ran my tongue under my top lip, turned again, and curled my finger to Seb. He sauntered over in the sexy way he always did. His tanned skin, dark eyes and hair were going to be a hit.

“Mmm, and which one is this?” Maggie asked.

“This is Seb. Seb is...” How did I describe Seb?

“Seb is another gorgeous one. How did you pick them?” Did she swoon. Oh my, she did.

I laughed a little and shook my head. “I don’t think I picked them, we just ended up together.”

“Together?” she said, her voice quieter than normal.

“I mean, as my knights.”

Seb leaned into my ear. “I want to speak to you later, by ourselves,” he whispered. I nodded as he sauntered away.

I did a full turn to look for Kane. I gave him a smile. “Come here,” I mouthed. He strutted towards me.

“And this is Kane,” I said and looked up at him and smiled. Kane wrapped an arm around my shoulders and held his other hand out.

“Pleased to meet you.”

“Likewise,” Maggie said, shaking his hand. Her gaze landed on his hand that stroked my shoulder.

“I prepared all the bedrooms,” she said.

“Nobody can sleep in my parents’ bedroom,” I said.

Maggie nodded. “That’s fine. I thought you’d say that, that’s why one will have to be in the small single room or the downstairs bedroom. I’ll let you get on Lacey. Dinner will be ready for six. I must get prepared," she said and walked away.

I closed my eyes and inhaled a breath, before I turned and smiled.

“Okay, let’s pick bedrooms,” I said and walked from the living room and into the entrance and then through a separate hallway to the downstairs guest. Opening the door, I strode in. “If anyone would like to take this bedroom suite, you can say now. Otherwise, one bedroom upstairs is small, a single bed and to be honest this is possibly the best bedroom in the house.”

“I’d like to be upstairs,” Carter said. “But remember, I’m going home for a few days over Christmas.”

“Yes, that’s fine,” I said.

“Okay, we’ll come back to this bedroom when one of you ends up with the small single bedroom,” I said and laughed. Because I’d have the downstairs suite in a flash, it was akin to the best presidential suites in the best hotels.

We walked from suite and into the hallway, back to the entrance of the house and then we climbed up the central staircase. It veered off left and right half way up. I turned and took the left.

“Which one is your room?” Seb asked.

I grinned. “I’m not telling you. Pick a door, but don’t enter the room.”

I watched as each of them went to a door and I opened the one Ryan had stood next to. “You picked well. This is a nice king-sized bed with en-suite.”

I followed Ryan as he walked into the room and looked around. He turned to me. “Great, I’m happy with this.”
