“I leave you to unpack,” I said and went back to the landing and opened the door to where Kane stood.

We both walked inside.

“Not so well. This is the single bedroom, bathroom is next door, no en-suite, I’m afraid. Do you want to swap for the downstairs suite?”

His gaze zeroed in on mine. He swiped his tongue over his lip. “I’ll think about it.” He hesitated and one side of his lip raised. “If you’re on top of me, we only need a single,” he whispered.

“But no bathroom.” I raised my eyebrows in response and smacked his arse, then walked to the door. I turned and smiled at Kane. “I can walk downstairs. It’s a palatial suite with no guests on any of the adjoining walls.”

I walked away from Kane’s grin and to the next room. “Seb, your turn.” I opened the door and a similar room to Ryan’s, with cosmopolitan interior. My mother loved her perfect home.

“Wow, I could live here,” Seb said, looking around.

I grinned. “We might one day.”

Would I live in the house with my four men? Would other people think that was strange, or because of who I was, did that mean the normal rules of decency didn’t apply to me?

I walked to where Carter stood outside the bedroom next door. I smiled. “That’s my room, and I’m not moving.” I pulled his hand and dragged him to the room around the landing and opened it up.

“You get my mother’s pet project.” It was the strangest of rooms for a woman and contrasted massively with the rest of the light coloured house. This bedroom had black furniture and bedding, charcoal wooden floor. The only bit of colour was in the bright artwork that adorned the walls. “Apparently she was going through all the bedrooms to give them a change.” She started with my brother’s old bedroom first.

“I love it,” Carter said.

“Okay, we have an hour, so I’m going to have a nap and I’ll see you for dinner at six o’clock sharp. Just so you know, Maggie and lateness don’t agree.”

Chapter 45

Seb

Dinnerwasalittlegrander than I was used to, actually I had never had a dinner quite like this. This was the first life since leaving Heaven that Aurora was brought up with a silver spoon in her mouth, I expected Carter was in the same position, but I wasn’t sure about the other two.

My life consisted of having dinner sat at the table, so yeah I had what I deemed a normal childhood, at least in this life, but our dinner normally meant everyone bickered over something or other.

Sometimes dad would insist on listening to the news as he ate, which infuriated my mother. Us kids, that was me, two older brothers and a younger sister, just wanted to eat and get the hell out of there.

Probably the reason I never appreciated eating dinner properly.

And this was proper.

All the cutlery was on the table in its right place. The table laid as though we were attending a dinner with aristocracy. Not that I’d ever had dinner with anyone posh before, but I expected this would be how it would look.

Should I have put a suit on?

Lacey laughed as she looked at me.

“Are we connected again?”

She nodded.

“Did you turn it off?”

“Not at first. It disappeared and now it’s back.”

“I’m glad.”

“Me too.”

“I missed you.”
