Still, I missed him.

Gods, I was giving myself whiplash.

I went to the window and looked outside. Creek, after our interlude in the woods, had pitched a tent, of all things, in the yard near the herb garden. I knew it was his way of keeping close to me without barging in and laying claim.

Besides, my tiny cabin was built for a single girl who had no prospects of a mate, much less three.

Damn, it. I wondered if Christie had told Dean about Creek, or would I have to?

I grabbed my whiteboard and showed my mate, who was now behind me.

You don’t mind if he comes inside?

“Not at all. He’s your mate, too. He’s one of us. He belongs near you just like I do. Let’s not make this separation thing a pattern, okay? I can take the couch or leave and give you two some privacy.”

The last thing I need is distance, from any of you.

Shane blew out a breath that tickled the rim of my ear and made me shudder. He rubbed my arms. The sun was slowly dipping behind the mountains for the night, and I didn’t want Creek outside one more night, on the cold ground, just because of me.

Are you sure?

“I’m sure. Mate. I can see how all of this is tearing you up. My wolf is fine with this, and so am I. I’m not…never mind.”

He was going to say he wasn’t Dean. He wasn’t wrong, but it was a rotten thing even to almost say.

Didn’t blame him, and not one inkling of anger was in me because of it.

My life was officially a mess.

And I hadn’t even allowed myself to think about the creepies hanging out in the woods just waiting to capture me or whatever they intended to do.

I’m going to invite him in. We’ll figure it out.

Shane kissed my temple and mumbled something about straightening up while I headed for the door, whiteboard in hand.

“Hey,” Creek said. He was sitting on a log and looking up at the sky. His wet clothes were hanging on a makeshift line. All he wore were a pair of jeans and a smile. I still couldn’t believe that smile was for me.

I waved and went to sit beside him. Droplets of water clung to his tanned skin, and his hair was combed back, still slick from bathing.

Gods, I wanted him in that moment. To feel his warm skin against mine. To have him look down at me with those green eyes, filled with nothing but love.

Waterfall?

Creek read the note and nodded. “Yep. It’s a shower and a washing machine in one. Convenient.” He winked at me, and it was all I could do not to drag him into that little pup tent and see if two people could fit.

Did you eat?

“Nah, I’m not really hungry.”

It was bullshit, and we both knew it. He was willing to go hungry out here just to be near me.

Pants on fire.

He shrugged. “Truth is, I’m starving, but I don’t know…I don’t know what to do yet. You already have enough mate drama. The last thing I want to do is add to it.” His smile turned me to jelly from the inside out. “I just want to be near you.”

Mate Drama. That was spot-on.

Shane is fine with it. He’s fine with me having a harem. Come inside. We will figure it out, all of us. Together.
