“Bambi, you could ask me to send you to the moon right now and I’d try everything in my power to make it happen.”

“How about twenty-two autographed kid t-shirts I can give my class? And two adult ones, for the teacher I’m studying under and my best friend and co-teacher in the building.”

“Do you have all their sizes?”

“Yep.”

“Then let’s go to the gift shop. I’ll even foot the bill.”

Cassie grinned. Jamal loved the way her eyes crinkled at the corner and the dimple in her left cheek appeared when she smiled. It could light up a room.

“No worries. I can pay for them,” she remarked.

“And where does a girl like you have enough cash to cover that amount of t-shirts.”

Cassie’s grin fell off her face. “I just do.”

“I sense a story behind those sad eyes, Bambi.”

“A story I don’t really feel like telling,” she replied.

“Fair enough. Hopefully I can one day change your mind. Now let’s go get those t-shirts. I might even deliver them myself.”

“Daddy, can I come?”

“You’d do anything to get out of school, wouldn’t you, squirt?”

“You know it,” JJ grinned. “We do too muchwork!”

“Unfortunately, that’s the name of the game, kid. Now let’s go. We’ve got some t-shirts to pick out.” Jamal looked at Cassie, who offered him a sad smile and how he wished he could be the one to wipe away the sadness he saw.

“Oh. My. Lord! Cassie, I can’t believe hekissed youin front of eighteen-thousandpeople!”Natasha came up to Cassie during the morning rise and shine in the school’s gym. All heads turned their way at the sound of her friend’s screeching.

“Tosh,shut up!You’re causing a scene!”

“Girl, you caused a scene last night when you played kissy face with Jamal Jenkins for the whole world to see.”

“Surely noteveryonesaw it.”

“Are you kidding me? You were in the top ten countdown on ESPN’s Sports Center!”

“I don’t know what that is.”

“It’s the sports news channel. I’m sure the entire country saw your kiss. You were number one on the countdown.”

Cassie bent down and put her hands on her knees. “I think I’m going to hyperventilate.”

“Honey, I wouldn’t hyperventilate if he had kissed me like that! I’d revel in it! You think you could sign me up for the next set of seats?” Mrs. Simmons came up to the duo and gave Cassie an elbow to the ribs. “Old Ray would love me forever if I got him courtside seats to the Thunder game. I might even get lucky that night!”

Cassie felt her face turning red. “June! TMI!”

“What? Just because I’m old, honey, doesn’t mean I’m dead.” Mrs. Simmons gave her a wink. “Now go get our classroom, missy. I’ll be taking it easy in the teacher’s lounge. Watching ESPN highlights on my iPad.”

Cassie shook her head. “What am I going to do?” She moaned.

“Easy,” Tosh said, putting her arm around Cassie’s shoulders. “You’re going to go down to your classroom and teach your kiddos. That’s what you’re good at, right? No more thinking of the kiss. Got it?”
