“Yep. Definitely thinking about it,” Kyle grinned and nudged his wife.

Cassie rolled her eyes at her friends and their immature behavior. She started to tell them what she really thought, but as soon as she was about to unleash the fury on her friends, Jamal and JJ walked up to the trio, Jamal wrapping his arm around Cassie’s waist and JJ placing one of her small hands in Cassie’s.

“You guys look like you’re deep in discussion. Care to share?” Jamal asked.

“Oh, just betting on whether or not Cassie-” Cassie broke away from JJ and Jamal and covered her friend’s mouth before she could spill the beans about their discussion. She didnotneed that to happen. At. All.

“Nothing. Just asking where we were going to eat,” Cassie replied.

Jamal raised his eyebrows quizzically. “Really?”

“Yep,” Cassie replied. “So where to? I think we should ask the girl who did such an amazing job today.”

Jamal groaned. “What?” Cassie asked.

“Because if you give my daughter a choice, she’s always going to pick one place.”

“Please don’t tell me McDonald’s,” Cassie replied.

“Heck, no!” JJ wrinkled her nose. “That place is disgusting.”

“I shouldn’t be surprised that you wouldn’t choose the typical kid-friendly joint.” Cassie said as she pulled playfully on JJ’s ponytail. “So let me in on the secret. Where are we going?”

“Pei Wei,” Kyle, Callie, JJ and Jamal said at the same time. Cassie shrugged her shoulders. “Sounds fine to me. I’ve never eaten there, but I love Asian food.”

They all looked at her with stunned expressions on their faces. “Really?” JJ asked. “Cassie, that’ssad. You need to get with it. Pei Wei isawesome!”

“How did we live together for three years and I not know you never ate Pei Wei?” Callie asked. “I feel like I failed you as a friend.”

Jamal laughed. “I’m glad I’m the one to get to introduce you to Pei Wei deliciousness then. Kyle, you guys want to go with us?”

The newlyweds looked at each other knowingly. “I think we’ll pass on this one,” Kyle answered. “You kids have fun.”

“Who you callin’ kids, Uncle Kyle?” JJ frowned. “I’ll be a teenager in five years.”

The adults laughed. “Despite what you think, Jaydence, until you’re in double digits you’re still considered a kid,” Kyle grinned with a ruffle of JJ’s hair.

“Why iseveryonealways touching myhair?”JJ groaned. “Do you realize how hard it is to brush this stuff?!”

Cassie grinned at Jamal over his daughter’s head.I love this kid,she mouthed.

Jamal gave a knowing nod her way and Cassie knew what he was thinking. If you couldn’t love JJ, you were a pretty heartless person.

“Oh! Em! Gee! This place is delicious! How have I never eaten here before?”

Jamal grinned at Cassie and the look of utter food joy on her face. He had talked her into ordering his favorite thing at Pei Wei, two crab wontons and Mongolian beef with fried rice. She had eaten all of her food and picked off JJ’s plate of chicken teriyaki when JJ stated she couldn’t eat another bite.

“I knew you’d like it,” he replied.

“How? You don’t know anything about my food preferences,” she said, grabbing her fortune cookie and taking it out of its wrapper.

“I can tell when a person has good taste buds. It’s a gift,” he replied. “I was hoping you would like it. Otherwise, I’d have to cut you off.”

“Seriously?” she looked at him disbelievingly. “Over food?”

“Bambi, you have no idea how much I love my cuisine.”
