JJ laughed. “You know you love us.”

Cassie rolled her eyes. “I do. As much as you guys drive me crazy. But I really do want to buy you some cute clothes. Please? I promise I won’t make them too girly. And Ireallywant to win the bet with your dad. Callie failed with her bet, so I want to one up her.”

“Hey!” Callie said, before grinning along with them. “That lost bet won me my hubby, so I don’t really care if I lost.”

“We both know it still makes you mad that he won the bet. And beat you in your favorite game.”

“Does not,” Callie muttered, a frown on her face.

Cassie grinned. “It’s ok, Cal. I’ll never tell. Now, what do you say? Can we get you some not too girly cute clothes?”

JJ shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not wearing ruffles.”

“Deal.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

Three more stops and two hours later, Cassie had accomplished her goal. JJ had not five, butsevencute outfits. She had finally gone into Crazy 8 in Moore with Cassie and they had hit the jackpot. Crazy 8 had clothes that were adorable but not too girly. JJ had walked away with several t-shirts paired with cute shorts. Cassie had even convinced her to buyonedress. It was turquoise with a tiny coral diamond pattern across the flowy fabric. The tank top dress hit her knees and was long enough to make JJ feel like she wasn’t wearing a dress, which was a win for both of them.

“So?” Cassie asked with a nudge to JJ. “What do you think? Was that so bad?”

JJ rolled her eyes. “I guess not.”

“Admit it. You like them. And they all didn’t come from Academy. I can’t wait to show your dad.”

“What do you win since you won the bet?” JJ asked.

“I don’t know. I just wanted to win.”

“Well, you better think of something good so my day of shopping won’t be in vain.”

Cassie laughed. Maybe she couldn’t get JJ to admit she actually had a good time today, but she didn’t have to hear it. She knew JJ did and that counted in her book.

“I’m open to suggestions, kid. Just think of something you know he would probably not like and I’ll make him pay.”

“Let me think on it,” JJ said.

“I think you should make him sit through a super sappy love story movie,” Callie suggested. “He and Kylealwaysmake fun of me for watching anything like that.”

“That might be a good idea,” JJ said. “If it isn’t full of action or sports, he usually doesn’t like watching it,” JJ added. “But I think he’d do it for you.”

“Why do you think that?” Cassie asked her.

“Because helovesyou.”

Cassie felt her face turning red.

“He does!” Callie added. “Has he said it yet?”

“None of your business,” Cassie told her.

“He has!” JJ exclaimed. “Does that mean you’re gonna move into our house?”

“No!” Cassie said adamantly. “No, I’m not moving into your house.”

JJ frowned. “Too bad. I would like to have someone I could look up to and ask girly questions. I love Irma, but she isn’t too hip.”
