“Just you wait,” Trevin continued. “She likes me. I know it.”

“Sure she does. You just keep on believing that, man.”

Trevin shoved Jamal in the shoulder. “I will. And when we go on our first date, I’ll say I told you so.”

Jamal laughed. “Deal. Now, let’s get out of here. We gotta game to win tomorrow night, but before we head out on the plane tonight, I wanna watch a movie with my girls.”

Trevin grinned. “Man, you aretotallywhipped.”

Jamal shrugged his shoulders. If this was what being whipped felt like, he was totally ok with it.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

“Are you ready to watch your daddy on TV?” JJ and Cassie were curled up on Cassie’s couch in her apartment, a bowl of popcorn between the two of them. Cassie had volunteered for JJ to spend the night with her, giving Irma time out with Melvin. He was taking her on a date to the Cheesecake Factory and then a boat ride on the Riverwalk downtown. Irma had been preening all day to get ready. Cassie thought it was super cute how in love she and Melvin were.

Aria was perched in the recliner angled next to the couch. All three were facing the television, waiting for the Thunder game to come on. They were playing on the road in Memphis, so Aria didn’t have to cheer. Cassie was used to Aria watching all the Thunder away games at her dad’s bar while she was earning extra money as a bartender. But for some reason, she decided to stay in with Cassie and JJ, an ever present box of Charms suckers sitting on her lap.

“Hey, Ar! Toss me one of those suckers!” JJ hollered, sticking her hand that was stuck in her softball glove up in the air. “The pineapple/grapefruit one. Those are awesome.”

“Not you too, JJ?” Cassie moaned. “I better not start finding sucker sticks hiding under my pillows. Andwhyare you wearing a softball glove?”

“The more important question is how have younotnoticed? I noticed and I’m not even the one sitting next to her on the couch!” Aria rolled her eyes.

Cassie glared at her friend. “Rude,” she commented.

“Ok. Ok, Cass. I’ll take it off,” JJ said, tossing her glove on the floor. “Happy now?”

Cassie grinned. “Happy. Now, don’t throw any more suckers around my apartment. If you want one, march your happy butt over to Aria and get one. Got it?”

JJ grinned. “Got it.”

“Hey girls! Can we pay attention here?Yourman -” Aria pointed at Cassie, “Andyourdad,” Aria continued, pointing at JJ, “Is about to come on.”

The trio turned toward the TV, letting out cheers when they announced Jamal as the starting point guard for the Thunder.

“Yay, daddy-o!” JJ cheered, tossing popcorn up in the air and catching it in her mouth. “Don’t you dare get lazy on defense like you did the last road game.”

“Be nice, you,” Cassie said with a smile. “Your daddy is a pretty awesome basketball player. Same asyouare a pretty awesome softball player.”

JJ grinned. “Thanks, Cass. Although I don’t know if I should trust you since you can’t even catchanyball thrown at you.”

Cassie ruffled JJ’s hair. “Hey, you. That’s not nice.”

Aria grinned and popped the sucker out of her mouth. “Something tells me she has luck catchingsomeballs.”

Cassie felt her cheeks turning red. “Aria, you need to shut your mouth.”

“What’s she talking about? Can you catch some balls I don’t know about?” JJ asked, a disbelieving look on her face.

Aria burst out laughing. “Ask her in ten years, kid. She’ll probably tell you then.”

JJ looked at Cassie. “What does that mean?”

“That means,” Cassie answered, “That it is an adult conversation Aria shouldn’t have started in front of you.”

JJ moaned. “Ihateit when Irma and dad haveadultconversations. It’s no fun.”
