I gritted my teeth. “I really want to slug Deck in the face right now.”

Seff huffed out a laugh. “I feel that way ninety-eight percent of the time I’m near him.”

Footsteps ran up behind us. Sorrel stopped beside me and simply stared for a few moments before finding his words. “What the fuck?”

“Yeah,” Brutus replied as he tapped out something on his phone. “Okay, got you two a new ride.” He flashed his phone with the Uber app open. A text popped up, stating the driver was on their way.

“Do you think Deck found someone to fly him to Kerrville?” Seff asked.

“Possibly. It’s also likely he found a commercial flight to San Antonio. Non-stop would get him there in a couple of hours.”

“Damn. He could be there already.”

I reached out to my brother through our twin bond. The same calm I’d felt a few minutes ago echoed back at me. “No.” I shook my head. “He’s not there yet.”

Brutus cocked his head to the side. “How do you know?”

“We have a special twin thing. My mom had it with her twin. It’s how she knew when her sister had died in a car accident. Mysakanabond with Seff has muted my bond with Deck, but I can still feel him, especially when I focus.”

“Well,” Sorrel said. “Can you focus on telling your brother he’s an asshole, and he owes me for a set of slashed tires?”

“I’ll be sure to relay your message as soon as I see him again.”

If I see him again.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

The lights of Kerrville, Texas, grew closer and brighter as I watched out the window of the small 4-seater plane. Seff had called ahead to the Comfort pack Alpha before we left to ensure we’d have a ride. Once we landed, he grabbed his duffle and my backpack as our pilot unlatched the passenger door and released a small set of stairs. Raindrops sprinkled my face as Seff helped me out and down the steps. The outside temperature seemed almost balmy compared to the freezing temperatures of Red Lodge and Colorado Springs.

Seff extended his hand to our pilot and offered a folded wad of one-hundred-dollar bills. “Thanks for the ride and sorry for gettin’ you outta bed so early in the morning.”

“You don’t need to give me that.” The human took a step back, waving the money away. “I owed Brutus a favor, and now we’re square.”

Seff nodded and shoved the wad in his back pocket. I gave the pilot a smile and my thanks as well.

Seff wrapped his arm around my shoulders and led me across the wet asphalt. “You feelin’ him yet?”

I’d searched in hopes I could open my twin connection to Decker before we had boarded the small plane, but I’d felt nothing. I didn’t know if he’d been sleeping or what. There was simply nothing to latch onto. I opened our connection again, trying to pinpoint his location now that we had landed. A thread seemed to dangle there. Decker was awake and a little...frightened?

A strange sudden sensation wrapped around my wrists and ankles, but there was nothing there when I looked. Then the muscles along the underside of my arms and down my ribcage felt stretched so tight I gasped.

“Desarae?”

I rubbed my wrists and arms, expecting to see a rope, or cord, or...
