“Deck is going to die,” I choked out.

He pulled me back into his arms and tucked my face against his chest. His hand smoothed over my hair and wrapped around the back of my neck. “Gunner will do everything he can to keep that from happenin’.”

I felt the presence of other wolves around me and tried to calm myself by breathing in Seff’s familiar scent.

The sweet taste of lemon candy coated my tongue as a female murmured off to my right, “Gun, he sent a text message.”

“What the fuck? How am I supposed to deal with a crazy inbred rogue sending me text messages?”

I wiped at my face and looked up in time to see Gunner with a phone to his ear. A tall, curvy, black-haired female with odd blue eyes stood next to him. Like Seff and me, she was fully clothed.

Gunner growled. “Answer the damn phone.”

Seff whispered, “Simone, Ralph is here.”

The female looked at Seff and nodded. Her strange eyes landed on me. “Brenin said you can feel what your brother is going through.”

“Yes.” I wiped away the tears I couldn’t seem to stop. “We have a twin bond.”

“I’m so sorry he’s mixed up in this.”

“Deck thought he was protecting Seff.”

She raised a dark eyebrow. “But Seff would never have been caught.”

“That’s the truth.” Seff huffed.

Gunner growled as he tapped at his phone. “Have I told you how much I hate technology? Texting drives me batshit crazy.”

Red-hot searing pain started at my navel and spread upward.

“Oh gods!”

So much for blocking my brother out.

Bending forward, curling in on myself again, I pressed my hands into my belly in a failed attempt to stop whatever was slicing through me—through my brother. The pain was so intense, so real, I couldn’t be sure I was actually splitting in two or if I only felt as though I were.

“Please stop.” I gritted out between my clenched teeth. The pain spread up between my breasts, and my canines shot out. “No, please. Stop, please stop.”

Seff’s arms tightened around me, his mouth at my ear, whispering, “I’ve got you, Des. Focus on me.”

Gunner’s voice sounded far away. “Didn’t you do a blood exchange?”

“Nope.” I felt the word rumble through Seff’s chest.

“I told you, the only way to break a twin bond is to exchange blood.” Gunner growled. “Do it now.”

Seff’s entire body quaked as a wave of Alpha power swept around us. His hands tightened on me in what felt like uncontrollable spasms.

“Don’t...order...me...to...do...that...Gunner.” He ground out every word as though he were fighting for his life. “Don’t you...do that to me...to her.”

“She’s hurtin’, Seff!” Gunner held out his hands. “How can you stand there and do nothing?”

“You told me...ask permission. I...did. She said...no.”

“Please...don’t...” Every breath felt like fire, and there was nothing to do but pant through the pain. “I...can’t...feel...”

Seff finished for me. “She won’t be able to feel him if she severs the twin bond.”
