After breakfast, westrolled down toward the pharmacy. The only evidence there had been a break-in was a sheet of plywood covering one street-level window.

My dad chatted with a few locals standing in front of the store. Mom and I led the twins farther down the street. I glanced back to see Seff had disappeared inside the pharmacy, only to return a few minutes later. Once Seff came out, he gave my dad a slight nod. He must have found what he was after. Dad offered his hand around, clapping one of the men on the back before he and Seff headed our way.

As they walked, I noted the male who had so recently come into my life. Side-by-side, Seff was about three inches taller than my dad. When he moved, he had the grace of a confident male. His denim jacket only accentuated his broad shoulders, and damn, his legs filled out his jeans in a way that made my mouth water. He would fit perfectly in Red Lodge.

But...I don’t want to stay here.

With that thought, Seff looked up, his dark eyes locking on mine. Then...he winked. A shiver of excitement raced through me, making my skin tingle all over. My cheeks seemed to catch fire and sting as the cold breeze fluttered the tiny hairs on my face. Seff grinned. He knew what he did to me. He felt it.

The quiet conversation he’d been having with my dad came to a sudden halt when they reached us.

Seff stepped up to me, tilted his head, and pressed another of those quick, sweet kisses to my lips. Much too short for my taste. But the way his gentle kiss filled me with such warmth was the polar opposite of what I’d allowed and had endured my entire time with Tillman.

Seff’s fingers were cold against my heated cheeks. “Hey.” His dark brows pinched together as he gazed down at me.

I smiled and shook my head to clear the past. “Hey.”

My dad said, “Your mom and I are gonna head on over to the hardware store.”

I looked at him and nodded. “We have one more stop, then we’ll meet you back at your truck.”

“Sounds like a plan,” he replied.

We wandered farther down Broadway while my parents went off in the other direction. Seff shoved his long, wavy hair back before settling his hat on his head. I caught myself more than once gazing at him and thinking,This male, this sweet, handsome male is mine. I couldn’t seem to help it.

It was another topic we’d have to discuss during our upcoming conversation.

Still, watching him comb his fingers through his thick locks made my hands tremble in anticipation of doing the same.

In private. In bed. Naked.

He shot me another sly wink, as though he’d somehow known what I’d been thinking. Or, at least, feltwhat I’d been thinking.

As we walked, he stayed at my side, his hand in mine while each of us held hands with one twin. Arteisma was on my side, dancing around, chattering happily, the way she always did. Nereida’s usually serious face held a smile. Not a faked, forced teeth-gritting grin, but a genuine smile. She seemed...happy. It was something I didn’t see very often.

Maybe everything would be all right.

I glanced at Seff, and again, struck speechless, I grinned.

This male. Seff Weylan.

The pale white scar running from his ear to the corner of his mouth only added to his rugged handsomeness. He was Montana material with his easy-going manner, jeans, thermal shirt, heavy denim jacket, cowboy hat, and leather hiking boots. And, again, he caught me gazing at him. His dark eyes twinkled, and his mouth formed a little flirtatious smile. The flush in my cheeks wasn’t only from the morning sun warming my face. This male shared a connection with me that no one ever had or ever would again. His loving attention to the twins wasn’t something he faked, but an attitude, an easy-going temperament that drew me to him even more.

“Seff?”

“Yeah?”

“Are your siblings younger than you?”

“Not all, just four,” he answered. “Well, I have another sibling coming in late July, maybe early August, so then it’ll be five.” He smiled. “If my dad has his way, I might get another full sibling in the near future.”

“Is your mom a Breeder, too?”

“Nah, but my parents.” He shook his head. “They’re in love. Have been since they met. They don’t share asakanabond, but that doesn’t matter none. Everyone can see the love. Whenever they’re together, they can’t keep away from each other. After my mom had me, my dad didn’t Breed again for years. He kept tryin’ to convince her they should mate, but she kept refusin’. Doesn’t matter to me whether they were mated. I love ’em. That’s not to say I wouldn’t want them mated because I do.”

“Were your parents members of the same pack?”

“Nope. I lived on my Uncle Gunner’s ranch in Texas during the school year, then at my Uncle Hemming’s place up in Lake Crescent during the summer. My dad split his time between my siblings and me and sometimes got us all together.”
